The Day Sophie Arrived

dinsdale by dinsdale Speaking(October 2007) (rank 204th)
I have noticed that some people have put their birthing experiences down here. I think it's great and especially to read different pregnancy's and births.

In October 2005 I knew that my boobs were different and I was certain that I was pregnant this time. I had a test in the bathroom, but Matt wouldn't let me test myself. He said that I should wait till the morning. Well I couldn't wait that long so I went off to the toilet and staring me in the face was the pregnancy test. I just had to do it. And what do you know it was positive, I was rapped. It was hard to keep my mouth shut.
We went to the Doctor and he confirmed all my dreams. We had a ultra sound down there and then. I was 5 weeks. Sophie was due 28th June 2006. Even better, she was due on my birthday. From then on we had different due dates. My Doctor went by 16th June2006. I wasn't complaining as he or she would come earlier.

My pregnancy was OK I had nausea for the first 3 months. Then in December I had red lumps come up on my legs. I was very concerned as they  ached all the time and being on my feet all day didn't help. I rang the after hours  surgery and got in straight away. The doctor was very unsure what is was, I was given some antibiotics and they drew a pen mark around to see it it would get and bigger.
The following week it was still there and more painful. More antibiotics and a few tests done, but nothing. I'd seen my local GP after that and showed him. He gave me more antibiotics and 5 days off work. After the course had finished I had to go back again. Still in pain he finally realised that is I had erythema nodosum.    www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythema_nodosum

Once that was all sorted my pregnancy was great. June arrived very slowly. On the 16th June my doctor advised me that I may have to have a c-section as my cervix was not dilating. I wasn't too bothered. He booked me in the the following week to be induced. So Friday being D day I was off to the hospital. Arriving get set up in the labour room to be induced. He first put the gel in to see what was going to happen. Many hours later I could feel the contractions starting. About 2.30pm they came back to see how our baby was traveling. Well not so good, I was only 3 cm dilated. He and the midwife discussed  whether he should brake my waters or send me home till next Monday. Well there was no spots for the next week so it was my call. Must be a motherly instinct to know what to do. I said I'm here now lets do this.
As he had several trys to break my waters it was so painful. But success it happened. In my waters there was poo which is a sign the baby is distressed. Feeling a bit distraught I was worried as to what will happen. They still hooked me up to the drip and to try and bring my labour on more. An hour later the contractions started and  little Sophie's heart beat had dropped. The midwife got me on my side and gave me oxygyen to breathe. I started to panic and I could tell by Matt's face that he was worried for us both. The senior midwife came into examine me and said to get the surgeon up here. My Doctor was phoned and he was on his way back. The surgeon did another horrible internal and said to get me ready straight away for surgery. Thats when I felt a relief. I knew my baby would be delivered soon.

The rest was a bit of a blur because it was go go. Down in theatre was scary, but I knew my baby would be here soon. At 6.15pm My beautiful baby girl was born weighing 3.3kg. Mind you I had to ask the doctor twice whether it was a boy or girl.I was glad it was all over. And she was safe and sound. The rest is another story.

Great article, Tracey, thanks for sharing this with us! I've never heard of  erythema nodosum, sounds scary and also painful. I was pleased to read that it was all sorted out  and with treatment you were on the amends. That Sophie made her entry in this world, safe & sound.

Hugs Janice

Re: The Day Sophie Arrived

Thanks for sharing your story. I had Erythema multiforme when I was pregnant with my daughter. I t took them weeks to find out what it was, I had it all over my body & face, it looked like 3rd degree burns. They still weren't 100 per cent sure I had it but I refused more test's. They couldn't tell me if it would affect my baby but she turned out fine, thank god. Glad your little girl is safe & sound.

Cheers Dee.
