bubba76 by bubba76 Talking(October 2007) (rank 89th)

There are many tests’ that can be performed during pregnancy for your health and your baby’s health. You also have the rights to ask for a test to be done or the rights to refuse a test to be performed. L hopes this helps some to understand a little

Baby heartbeat (Fetal heartbeat) – During the pregnancy a Doppler ultrasound let’s you listen to the baby’s heartbeat

Baby growth (Fundal height) – Baby growth measurement can be measure by a tape measure/by feel of the abdomen by measuring the height of the uterus

Re: Type of Test’s during pregnancy
i have had the pappa test aka Nuchal Translucency Test, and am due to have the GCT Done shortly.
I am really not looking fwd to the GCT because i can't handle sweet things too much - and theres a litre of the fluid to drink and 2 blood samples! OUCH!
Good advice, and will help new mum to be's out who don't know what to expect.
However, I think there could be a little more expansion on some of the things that are in here, such as the GCT - like put what is involved etc.
Cheers

Re: Type of Test’s during pregnancy
Hi this is great information - do you include the glucose test - I didn't see it.  It might pay to put them in order, or mention that you would only have certain tests if results of another test indicated that it was neccessary...

i.e. If your 12 week ultrasound and blood tests indicated your baby was in a high risk group and your age was over 35 etc, then a doctor may recommend an amniocentesis to investigate further etc... As it isn't just a standard test to expect.

Cheers, Lui.

Re: Type of Test’s during pregnancy

Damn straight! I have flat out refused to have some of the blood test my doctor has ordered.

I am MARRIED with 3 kids already, I REFUSE to be tested for HIV/AIDS,  Hep B & C, Syphilis or a strep B swab. That is an offence to me. My Husband & I are happily married, so 100% faithful to one another. Our youngest is 3, & nothing has changed. I was quite annoyed at my doctor!

Re: Type of Test’s during pregnancy

You can get some of those diseases by means other than sexual activity though... It's a good opportunity to find out if you have contracted them and whether or not your unborn child is at risk.

Re: Type of Test’s during pregnancy

Yeah, I ended up having them, I thought I've got nothing to hide & it keeps the Doctor & Hospital happy. All is good, I have nothing!!! Even my cholesterol was good, which shocked me!!!
