Tub Time Tips

tracey by tracey Young Parent(July 2006) (rank 13th)

Many of us parents have trouble when it comes to the bath time. Although most kids love the bath, they hate getting their hair washed and rinsed. Well, mom Karen shared this little tidbit with Parent Hacks and I thought I’d bring it to you all. She bought

a plastic watering can and uses it like a baby “shower” while her little one is in the infant seat. When her son is hesitant to getting his hair rinsed they pretend he’s a flower that needs to be watered. I’m sure it works equally as well in rinsing his body off too.

Not nearly as clever but often effective, I ask my daughter to look up at the sky and try to count the stars. We sing “Twinkle Twinkle” and then count slowly together. The game will usually last long enough to get the shampoo out.

And as a bonus, I promise to give her a handful (or cupful) of the “suds” I get from lathering her hair. She gets excited enough for her “prize” to be patient as I rinse.

Watering can
what a hilarious idea.  Ethan would love that.  Especially when he realizes that he could water the floor on the OTHER side of the tub.

Good Idea
I would have liked to know this 3 years ago but we have little problems now. My eldest (6) uses nice coloured friut shampoo for kids and the 4yo can only use Derm a Vene for his eczema.

it works!!
I did that with both my kids.  I also used to say....look at my eyes....can you see my eyes?  When they are looking at my eyes, I start wetting their hair and continue to say....keep looking at my eyes.  Luke now says, I'm looking at your eyes mummy....I trust you.  The only problem I have now is when the children bathe together, look get the watering can and says.....Alyssa, look at my eyes and then completely dumps the water over her head.

Izzy, I know...I came accross Clays article! How funny. Great minds think alike, even though I really didn't think of it! But I will take credit for the stars part! ; ) Thanks for the link to Clay's article.

Works for me.
I also use a plastic watering can in the shower. I used to use a cup but the water just comes out in one big gush and my son just hates it. With the watering can, at least the water is a little bit controlled. Matthew still hates his head wet, but it's much better now.
