Paper models - fun for all the bored people!

kathryn-solaris by kathryn-solaris Talking(November 2007) (rank 141st)
Just a little one... Don't know if anyone here is interested but there is a world of printable fun out there online for the kids. We have been dabbling in paper models recently. So if the kidlets are bored on the school holidays or need a bit of a boost with
projects there are models out there for everything and they are tons of fun to make.
this is one of my fav sites they have a wide variety of things for the kids and parents. There is many more complicated models such as castles, famous buildings, aircraft, there are even whole town models! out there fun for the whole family. Things to look up in your search engine for paper models are;
  • paper craft
  • 3d paper models
  • paper toys
  • and movable paper models (these amaze me cause they move via levers and simple cogs!!! so frikin' COOL!)
Oh....and don't forget with Christmas coming up there is also paper decorations and polyhedra with some uber sparklie Christmas paper.
these activities are reasonably cheep and loads of fun for the whole family. Only extra thing I will say though is don't print them on anything less than standard gsm copy paper or they will collapse If you can, get something heavier from your local newsagent or print shop.  You can take some amazing pics of the models when they are finished too (that would be a really cool scrapbook.... OMG genius!). haha! hope this helps relieve the holiday boredom for some, go check it out! it's WICKED AWSOME!

What a great idea.......

My hubby would even love it, he made me a paper rose once for our anniversary.....It is so beautiful and I love it because it wasn't something he went out and bought just for the sake of it.

Great article Becca

If the kiddies are not so handy with scissors or they are too young for scissors, you can also try searching for "Origami" online and just make creations by folding paper.

Good fun time idea!

totally coolies idea Izzy, have not dabbled in origami since i was a kid, totally forgot about it. also teabag folding (although it is kinda fiddly) is way awesome for making those special chrissy cards.

Re: Paper models - fun for all the bored people!
As in make your own patterns? There is a Japanese program that takes 3D models from some basic design programs (such as CAD, Careara, Daz Studio, Vue and alike) and transfers them into flat nets with less polygons, it even comes complete with tabs, actually quite cool. However, if you are referring to making the patterns that they have there is usually downloadable instructions with each item's net.

This is a great idea and my kids do this all the time . .  I also print out colouring books and quizzes etc. Keeps the older ones very entertained and also allows the young ones to scribble in colouring pages without upset the other kids.
