This is the official view on "voting sprees".
What is a voting spree? The most obvious form of a voting spree is when someone votes on a particular member's articles in quick succession.
Do we allow voting sprees? No we do not. Any member suspected of a voting spree will be warned. If they ignore the warning, their member account will be deleted.
Why don't we allow voting sprees? Our number 1 aim is to stop people from being targeted, plus stop them from "feeling" as though they are being targeted. We believe voting sprees show a disdain for the Minti system and we consider it a form of "gaming the system" and a breach of our Terms of Service.
How will we police this? We will manually be reviewing the voting activity of Minti regularly over the next few weeks while we build and deploy an automated check.
A bit of voting advice: I suggest people should just vote an article once they have finished reading it. If you have read the articles before, that was the time to really place a vote on them, otherwise you end up in a situation like this where people may interpret you are targeting them. We strongly suggest people not go through someone's articles and quickly vote them.
I hope this makes some sense and you feel a little more informed. check out the comments below, they add a lot of value to this article.
Note: Our "current" main focus is on articles, not photos. People can view photos and quickly make their mind up about how they wish to vote. This view may change, however if so we will inform members of this.
Any contributed content above is the subjective opinion of that member or external author, and not of Minti.com Pty Ltd. If you are searching for health related advice we strongly suggest you seek professional medical support. View our Terms of Service for more details.
I am over the rigged type system some members see fit to employ, that was not why I originally joined this site, I simply wanted advice and support, and people to talk to about things. I have enjoyed it, but seeing the attacks etc sours it. Pity, this site has real value. Oh well, I'm still here hey?
Thanx Clay for timely reminders about issues like these.
Ooops i did this the other day, just going through the ones that needed votes. i did read them all first. just read what caught my eye, had nothing to do with who wrote them. Hadn't read this one before now, so i'll keep it in mind for the future.
What happens when you're doing the random photo votes right, and the same members photo's come like 5 in a row, but you're picking random photo's from above the photo's? What do you do then? Do you still vote on them, or skip them? SOrry, i'm just a little confused on that one. It's happened to me a few times with a certain member, and i certainly don't want this member to feel victimised etc, and i know it's not a nice feeling etc. Thanks in advance
I think it runs both ways lillkatheryn, going and say I look through all of your articles and vote them, without even looking at the article itself, just because you might be a friend.... If I interpreted correctly
just one question, is the voting spree for like the negative voting? What if I have read several, and then, cause i like them, vote them all good? would that be just as bad? Though I have never done that before.....I'm to slow a reader...
I'm quite sure that is also classed as a voting spree. Anything voted low or high in quick sucession on numerous articles, with only a few minutes or less apart, or written all by the same person is a voting spree.
Well, that is my take on it and how i understand it.
It is a shame that articles like this appear to be necessary. However, I would like to comment on the definition of a voting spree when as "someone votes on a particular member's articles in quick succession" and the suggestion that "people should just vote on an article once they have finished reading it". I guess we all read the articles differently. Sometimes I read a really interestng article from a member, and then I look for other articles written by that member. In addition, I am a speed reader. While I don't always vote (and I tend to encourage members by voting positively when I do). Other times, I rsearch through the articles by topic. I fail to understand this voting "conundrum" (and the time devoted to it) and really urge members to counter this by using Minti as the forum it was intended to be.
This is a voting spree: This afternoon a member 'read' more than 30 articles today and voted on them in just over 20minutes... Most of the articles were quite comprehensive, and taking time out to add 3 comments, that is well under a minute per article to read/comprehend/form an opinion and vote. It also requires multiple windows to be open, and the reader had targeted their subject before starting - as while most of the advice was by the same author - the voter was also concentrating on a specific topic.
can i ask why you sometimes don't vote on advice?
do you not vote when you think something is bad, and only vote when something is good?
we encourage all readers to vote on the quality of the advice, whether bad or good.
Hey Clay - nice work (in progress), I see that a lot of people still don't understand what a voting spree is - I consider that to be a good thing, it means they probably don't have anything to worry about! Cheers, Lui.
Hi Clay, thanks for info. Just a thought from when I first started voting on advice.
...when I was new and not sure if the vote I cast has been counted, as the stars may be gold to show previous votes, perhaps you could explain how the stars turn green to show the vote you cast by waiting a second, but if you click rapidly or double click, this too could be a vote spree. Just a concern for members when you set up your vote monitor, I'm glad to read there will be a warning e-mail sent....seems much more fair as the person has a chance to explain.
Sometimes I have re-read articles, and by way of what I have received give a second vote, I will be sure not to do this in the future....perhaps just an e-mail to the person writing of how their advice/post was helpful...a second time around :o) there are so many here to read!
You can vote a second time, i think it only changes your vote, not adds another vote. (?) You will notice a prompt that says you can change your vote at any time....so i'm sure your allowed to do this. The issue with voting sprees is when someone votes on loads of articles in minutes that are written by the same person. Julie xx
I don't think there was anything confusing about it all, this makes it totally clear now. The best time to vote is after reading an article it only takes a second, i presume comments can be made later if needed? Although i prefer to do it after i have read it then it is fresh in my head!!
