There is HOPE!

Anonymous Author (November 2007)

You should know, this is my first piece of advice written on Minti as I am a newbie here. So, please tell me if I did anything wrong, and I will defiantly use it educate myself! When I saw this advice section, I right away wanted to write something. One

of my biggest goals in life is to help people. So, as I began to think about what to write, I decided to choose a topic very close to my whole heart.

I work as a pediatrician, at a local children’s hospital where I treat children for scraped knees, to broken legs, to cancer, and as far as gun shots. I decided I wanted to show hope to parents who have children who have a health issue.

I have never lost a child, I have never had a child with cancer so if you are thinking right now, this lady doesn’t know what she’s talking about, you are right, and I don’t. I am just here to show you there is hope and I have seen the good side of these illnesses.

The first shock is hard. I am often there to tell the parents what is going on. When I first had to do this, I thought very much what I was going to say to 6 year old, Melissa’s parents when they found out that she was ill with leukemia. I am here to tell you that its been about 8 years since that, and Melissa is alive and doing great.

I have often thought about what is going through that parents head while I tell them those words that will change their life. I am telling them that their most prized possession is in danger. I have often thought about what I would be thinking. I would be thinking “There is no hope, I am going to loose my little girl.”

I am here to tell you THERE IS HOPE! I want to get that across, there is hope! Keep a wide mind open. You don’t need to go through the treatment plans yet, unless you want to. Ask the doctor questions, and tell them how comfortable you are and how much you want to know. Some parents want to know everything even if it means their child only has 3 days to live. Some parents choose to keep it to the doctors. What ever path you choose, make sure it is clear to the doctor.

I am not here to tell you what to do, I am here to encourage you and talk to you about the subject THERE IS HOPE. Even if your doctor says there isn’t.

I want to encourage you. I want to hug you and throw my arms around you. I want to tell you how much hope there is for your child. Calmly go through this and always put your child first.

This is a hard subject for me, as I have had to be there as many little children died and that is hard for me being a loving mother myself. But I think I need to be there to help people.

Again, please remember I’m new so don’t be critical, be helpful!

Dr. Erin Ross

Re: There is HOPE!

I think your article was really nice. I admire you for being the one who is there for the children and am glad that you have so much love to give sick children. I too believe there is hope, and I believe that people like you caring about the children whilst caring FOR the children really makes the difference. Thankyou for doing what you do.
