Teach your daughters that drug dealers ARE NOT rockstars.

etcircus by etcircus Talking(November 2007) (rank 379th)

I perform a lot at night time and have to admit, I LOVE to go out and have a dance at nightclubs too. I also do Djing work and have been getting more and more disturbed by what I see happening. You can always pick the drug dealers in a club or social situation. They are the ones standing there as if nothing can touch them and not really even hiding what they are doing and are always surrounded by pretty young girls. Why is this and why do the nightclubs etc. let KNOWN drug dealers into the club. I can tell you- because unfortunately I know. Drug dealers are let into clubs as:

  • the club can deny knowing that the person is a dealer even though the bouncers see the dealers doing deals, the dealers know where the security cameras are and can easily stay out of their way..
  • a drug dealer is not considered 'trouble' to the club owners and bouncers as most of them will stay sober (they are 'working') and are not likely to be involved in fights etc. as they have too much to lose if the police become involved.
  • people on drugs look like they are having a good time- until they get to the point where their eyes are rolling in their head or they are sitting down staring off into space. This makes the club look 'fun' and those obviously effected by drugs are kicked out...the dealer is allowed to stay and keep selling so that the next lot of club goer can look like they're having as much fun as the last drugged up idiots that they just kicked out.
  • most dealers unfortunately tend to have a large clientelle these days and the clubs have the opinion 'if the dealer goes somewhere else, the drug takers go somewhere else, the club doesn't look full and will lose business'.
  • People on drugs can drink and drink and drink and not even feel the effects. They will spend money until it is all gone and be surprised to see their empty purse/wallet. If you disbelieve this fact, look at the cases of ecstacy deaths where the drug taker's brain has swollen from drinking too much water when high.

The danger is how the dealers are perceived by others- especially young girls. Here are some of the illusions that work in the drug dealers favour:

  • As most dealers are regulars at clubs and venues, they are welcomed with hugs and smiles from most staff members. Giving the illusion to the casual observer that they are popular and cool.
  • A lot of drug dealers (I HATE saying this!!!!) have likeable aspects of their personalities which make it easier to overlook what they do for a living. But then again serial killers like Ted Bundy were also described as likeable. Unfortunately people don't seem to be able to draw the line about when someone's actions make them less appealing as a person. It is the dealers JOB to be easy to approach so that they can sell poison.
  • The amount of people 'talking' (really getting drugs) off the dealer makes the dealer look like they have even more friends
  • Pretty girls will on occasion use sex for currency- so the dealers get all of the 'hot girls' too- which makes them again look like a rockstar.
  • People will try and stay on the good side of their dealer because they don't want to be 'cut off' from their supply, so they dealer can usually tell people what to do and they will do it. This makes them look like an alpha male which is attractive to a lot of young girls.
  • The dealers also usually aren't stupid enough to take their own product, so are making a fortune and have all of the right clothes, the most expensive bling, cool cars, plasma televisions etc
  • Dealers can sweep a girl off her feet with expensive presents and dates BEFORE THEY  REMEMBER THAT PEOPLE ARE EASIER TO CONTROL WHEN THEY ARE ON DRUGS AND START FEEDING IT TO THEIR GIRLFRIENDS.

I think that it is important to explain to your children (especially teenage girls) that just because someone seems cool and has all of the right things, doesn't mean that they ARE cool. Remind your children to look beneath the surface of these situations and see that the so called popular drug dealer actually has no friends. Everyone is 'friends' with their product and a true friend wouldn't encourage their friends to do drugs. They may have all of the bling and cool cars etc. but those things will probably end up in the police impound lot and if you were enjoying watching the huge plasma in a drug dealers house and the police arrive, you will be sharing the same cell as the dealer for being around illegal activity and doing nothing- even if you have a tox screen and it's clear. The dealer may get the attention of attractive girls, but those girls are acting like prostitutes whether they think they are or not and are not the kind of girls that a quality guy would be interested in. Things are not always as they seem. Drug dealers are not like rockstars, they are really like thieves stealing quality of life off others.

Great advice, I totally agree.

Also, boys should be warned too because I'm sure they'd like to meet all the girls who are hanging around the drug dealer (without knowing that the guy they're with is actually a crook).

EXCELLENT point Angie! We definitely don't want boys aspiring to be like the drug dealers and I doubt anyone would want their son to be involved with a user that may introduce him to drugs :) Thanks for your comment, what you said is really important! xo
