This year seems to be the year for toy recalls. Whether it be lead based paints used on the toys, or items detatching that can pose a choking hazard. It really is amazing that with all of the regulations that govern the manufacture of all items that we are able
to purchase, that these hazards occur.
Recalls are not restricted to toys, they are imposed on food items, vehicles, furniture, clothing, theraputic goods and chemicals too.
Information on product recalls can be found in the most inconspicuous places of newspapers, shopfronts, and manufacturers or distributers websites. But the idea of trawling through individual company websites is quite a painstaking affair.
For a comprehensive lit of items currently being recalled in Australia, go to the ACCC recalls website.
http://www.recalls.gov.au/
This site gives the information of all of the current recalled items and you can also search the archives for items that previously been recalled. It also provides information on what to do and who contact about an item that you may have that is being recalled.
It will amaze you the broad range of items that are on recall at any given time, and the lack of publicity some of these items are given.
At the moment a few things that are on recall, apart from the obvious Bindeez range, are Jeep Sahara Portable Cot , Girls daisy sandals from Target, Baby Yoplait yoghurt, Coles/Bi-Lo sausages and bbq packs, and body builders powders just to name a few.
So take a moment every ouple of weeks to peruse the site and help keep your family or someone elses safe.
Take care, and hope this is of assistance.
