I find there are two jobs around the house I absolutely despice; washing up and doing the laundry. But at home we have devised a little system and a few little vices that make just a tad bearable and far less time consuming.
Laundry Management.
1. One basket per person.
Each of us has own basket for our dirty clothing, then there is one for the linen eg towels, sheets etc. This ensures that mums delicate lingerie (pffftt..yeah I have some of that!!) doesn't get washed with dad's dirty work gear. Also it reduces the amount of time you spend sorting out individuals clean washing as we do one load per person per week.
2. Delicates Bags.
These would have to be one of the world's best inventions. There is one in everyones baskets. For the little people it contains all of thier undies and socks, so no more lost socks. For the older people, they usually justy contain socks or delicate items eg bras. It is even better if you can train the owner of the basket to put the appropriate items in the bag. this saves time and your back because you don't have fish out tiny little socks from the bottom of the machine. It also saves time when hanging on the line and sorting as you don't have to go fishing through the basket for the socks friend. If it's raining and you can't use the clothes line, they can go straight into the dryer, and same applies....they all stay together.
3. Hanging the clothes to dry.
When it comes to hanging out the washing I have a couple of time saving tricks.
Use coat hangers for the items that are going to hung in the wardrobe later. I don't see the point in hanging on th line, folding in the basket, then ironing and hanging again in the wardrobe.....there are much better things to be done! there is a knack to getting t-shirts on the hangers and that is to enter diagonally from the bottom and slide one shoulder on, then the other, not via the neck opening. Then all you have to do is hang in the wardrobe when dry. You can purchase little clips from woolies etc that will go on your clothes line and keep the hanger in place.
Now for the darstedly underwear. You know those hangers you take travelling or camping, that have multiple pegs on them? Well invest in one of them, they are only a couple of dollars and they are great. Hang all of the socks, bras and little kids undies on them.
Not only do these last tips save you time and effort, but they save on clothes line space too.
