The power of 4 simple words

Peita79 by Peita79 Speaking(November 2007) (rank 286th)
The Mistakes we make often form who we are. It is only after we have made the long journey from start to finish that we realize some mistakes are the greatest blessing in disguise.

I have travelled the long road and made my fair share of mistakes. I have been

at the intersections of life and taken the wrong turn I have at times chosen the path less travelled.

As my grandfather said to me recently “Your train came off those tracks real quick, but you seem now to have found the rails again.”  These words meant so much to me.

I also recall the greatest thing said to me by my mother recently, these simple 4 words brought tears to my eyes, I had just called her from work to tell her I had received the pay rise I felt I deserved after 2 years of being with the company, when I told her she paused for a second the from the other end of the phone I heard “I’m proud of you”. These simple words meant so much to me because she had always been there to help when I needed it, she remained there even when I pushed he away and after all the things I had done to let her down, she was still proud of where I have ended up.

We now have a great relationship and I can understand now where she was coming from.

So I would just like to remind all the Mums (and Dads)  out there, sometimes our children will make mistakes, and will take the paths we would not wish them to take but at the end of the day if you stick with them things may turn out great, and those words 4 words that meant so much to me could mean the same for you child.

Re: The power of 4 simple words

powerful words... I think the 4 words that would mean more to me are " I am here for you"  We also need to remember to make time for our children and not get to caught up in other things.

Excellent. My mum would not have wished me to take the paths I always have, but I did and the thing she away's said was that she was proud of how I dealt with it all when it went wrong or did'nt work out. I hope I can do the same for my girls and do try to tell them often, how proud I am of them, in whatever they do. Thank you for sharing and this lovely reminder.

Luv Winnie.x

And sometimes we learn by our parents mistakes...mine have never said those four little words or even those three little words.....it seemed to be very difficult for them but i say this sort of thing to my boys all the time because it was never said to me!!  Nice work!  Julie

My dad said this to me only the other day and it meant the world to me
I tell my boys and my daughter this as many times as they will let me

Re: The power of 4 simple words

It is so soul destroying for a child not to have parental approval, and sometimes I think this can actually lead children to go further off the tracks....... To have a parents pride in our acheivements is a wonderful thing and does not diminish even when we are grown....

Flossy now stands and claps for your Mum and says "I am proud of you both"
