Re: getting 1yr old into bed
Asked by moa

Question:

my 1 yr old daughter goes to bed at 7pm, but 9 times out of ten goes to bed crying or screaming. Which neither of us likes.

Shes has toys in her cot,

music playing and usually passes up her last bottle. And i am now looking for suggestions. She doesnt like to be wrapped.

My Advice:

From my experience each child is different. So what works for one may not for the next.

A few things to try is:

No toys in cot.

Good routine...dinner, bath and a quiet play, or even books while she has her bottle, then say good night to toys to mummy daddy etc and time for bed.

I find that with my son we always say night night see you in the morning to his toys,tv daddy etc..he loves going into his cot.

My son is nearly 16 months old and i find that he gets tired after about 4-5 hours. If i catch him before he is over tired he goes to sleep no worries.

Does your daughter have any comfort things..dummy, blanket, toy?

If so get her to leave this item in the cot.

Tell her to say(even if she can't say it) bye bye see you when i am sleeping after her sleeps. My son waves bye to it and leaves it happily.

When it comes time for the cot he loves getting into bed with it!

It can even be closing the curtains..say "good night sun see you in the morning"

It will take time.

I wish you luck. Usually can take 3days to a week to break any habits.

Re: I hope this helps a little
I think that you have written some lovely advice with really good tips.  We don't have any problems with our little man at the moment, but if we did, I would certainly try this advice out.

May I suggest that you edit and change your title to include some reference to the advice topic?  That way, when people are searching for tips about getting littlies to sleep - this will feature more prominently in the results.

this is great advice and provides very good tips!
My emily loves her toy monkey george (named after tv show monkey curious george) and her cloth nappy as a snuggle rug. I rarely have issues with getting her to sleep!

Nice Advice. We have blue teddy who is very lazy, he spends his whole life in bed. I so agree with the no toy,s in bed, it can cause extra stimulation, just when they and you need it. We also use lots of different stories about bed time and how  great sleep and dreaming are, and how snuggly bed is. Thank you for sharing.
