If you have just found out you are pregnant now is the time to see your doctor or midwife to arrange ante-natal care or if the pregnancy was/is unplanned you may need to seek advice or counciling. Your local family planning services or doctor/midwife will be able to offer advice and help.
In the tenth week and possibly from here on in you may experience the following;
- morning sickness,
- fatigue,
- tender breasts,
- missed period,
- urinary frequency.
- feeling flushed due to your blood supply being increased.
- constipation, due to and increase in the hormone progesterone,
- sleeplessness (try a glass of warm milk or a warm bath before bed... works wonders)
On the up side some womens morning sickness and other symptoms may start to ease of at this stage!
This is when many women have their first antenatal appointment where you will be able to discuss the type of care you want for your pregnancy. You should also be offered screening for Down Syndrome which is usually done between 11 and 14 weeksby ultrasound and 14 - 20 weeks by serum testing. You will also have a complete blood examination to test for things like Hep b and c HIV, rubella titre, syphillis, blood group / anitbody screen and iron levels. You will also get to hear your babies heart beat and the midwife / doctor will check the heart rate. (this is my fav part).
You should also arrange to book in for your Morphology scan/ Ultrasound for the 18 - 20 weeks mark. This is when you may be able to find out if your having a boy or a girl, and they will check the development of your baby. Most places book weeks in advance so get in early.
Your baby is now swallowing, all the major organs are developed and blood and bone cells form. The fingernails will develop and bub will be able to kick altho its unlikely you will feel anything at this early stage.
Remember DO NOT take any medication with out getting it approved by your doctor or midwife. Even things like cold and flu tablets could harm your baby.
Take care of your self and try to rest as much as you can.
Only 30 weeks to go.
