Happy parenting through sleeping

ClayCook by ClayCook Minti Founder(February 2006) (rank 33rd)
Parenting is an amazing experience, but it is sometimes also exhausting. In our experience being tired can lead to stress, arguments and not the best experience for our child.

My wife especially has a busy day taking care of our little boy. To combat tiredness we started to listen to
what some books were saying... sleep!!! We have found that the best way for us to make sure we have as much energy as possible (so we can be as much fun for our child) is to regularly nap when our toddler has his day time nap. This currently is two hours of blissful sleep during the day. When I am working this is obviously not possible, but on the weekends when I spend most my time with Codi, I sleep each day and find myself fresh and energized.

Still works
If she is tired enough for a nap in the day now - even though she is 4, it is highly likely that I am needing a nap too.  So I still stop and rest!  Truly works wonders.
Peace

the routine of it all
While this works for our daughter as well (she sleeps longer w/a nap partner) it's not conducive to establishing her ability to nap alone. We've found that, like most anything, through sheer repetition she's getting better at taking naps by herself. This provides us with more time to do stuff that could otherwise distract our full attention from Aurora while she's awake.

I'm not saying I think this should never be done, rather, it seems a difficult precedent to break once established.

Re: the routine of it all
Hi Daedalus,

Thank you for your comments. The image I have used is confusing people. I am not suggesting people should sleep with their child, instead I am suggesting that parents should have a sleep whilst their child is sleeping (in different rooms and beds).

I will change the photo.

Thanks
Clay

Re: awe
I believe that if mommy is not happy... nobody is happy!!! So make sure mommy gets some rest ;)

More seriously... full time parents have the hardest job in the world (and probably the most enjoyable). They need to rest when the baby rests. Do not worry about housework etc, either just let it pile up, or get cleaners etc. I can not stress it enough. If mom is happy, baby is happy and dad is happy, what more to life is there?
