Hi All!
This is my first time writing advice here, so I hope what I am about to write is okay. I have found that many parents ask alot about establishing routines with their bubs, and I must say I was definitely among them. I desired so much to
find a method of establishing a good feeding and sleeping routine with my first bub that I tried just about everything anyone told me. I must say that some of this worked, and some didn't. However, in all my searching I found an absolutely Brilliant book that talks about establishing an "
infant management plan that successfully and naturally helps infants synchronize their feeding, waketime and nighttime sleep cycles" (1) and details a "
positive presciption for curing sleepless nights and fussy babies"(2). The book is called "
On Becoming BabyWise" and is written by
Gary Ezzo (M.A.)and Robert Bucknam (M.D.). I decided to try what they advised (too long to explain here) and found that it worked wonders with my first child. I am now rereading the book and reapplying the principles mentioned in it to my newborn bub, and am starting to see the same results. For the first couple of weeks of her life I forgot I had the book and I had a fussy baby that would cry ALOT when being put down for a nap, and alot of the time needed to be held until she fell asleep, but now that I am reapplying their principles I am finding that I now have a happy baby that feeds well and sleeps well, with little fussiness and only minor crying.
I guess what I am saying is that if you are like me and are finding it difficult to establish a good routine with your bub so that they are eating well and sleeping well (especially at night), I recommend reading this book. Although each baby is different, and it may not work for all, it has a good reputation for helping many parents with their Bub's sleeping patterns. It is very easy to read and not very thick (less than 250 pages), and both the authors have done extensive research in the area of infant sleep. It works for me, and I am sure that it will work for you also. Let me know how it goes
Cheers,
Pia
