Ho Ho Ho

Fairyfloss by Fairyfloss Speaking(December 2007) (rank 213th)
............... Tis the season to be jolly. Lie, Fib, White lie or Story?
Which ever way you look at it, we have the age old problem of  explaining the existence of a fat, hairy albeit jolly old man who breaths in, to
squeeze down non existent(Aussie) chimneys to
drop off copious pressies for enormous amounts of breathlessly excited children each year.

My path does not recognise this as a Christian celebration, rather as a Southern party for Summer. In the North it would be winter (Solstices)
We have decided to tell our child about the real saint nick and how it is in his memory this tradition is carried on......

She has taken this exceedingly well and as such knows that it is our money buying her presents, one in the spirit of Christmas is placed on a charity
tree in the spirit of Saint Nick etc. She has gone up to pretend Santa full of glee and full of excitement armed with the knowledge that he is carrying on
for the real Santa.

Which ever way you tell your Children, just know you are doing it the right way for your FAMILY...... for truly this is the real meaning of Christmas,
Forgiving old grievances or wrongs gathering together under the banner of goodwill etc.... See for your Children this is the most important gift
them being enshrouded with love, goodwill and stability.......

So fellow mintier's I bid you all a merry Summer and prosperous and safe New year.........

Yule tidings

Re: Ho Ho Ho

Great article Flossy...........We all have own beliefs and traditions and none of them are wrong as long as teach our kids that it's not just about the gifts we recieve..........There is so much more to the spirit of Christmas. I hope your Christmas is full of lots of love and laughs and your little one enjoys opening up all the pressies.

Lots of love from my house to yours.

Re: Ho Ho Ho
I think that is great, I think we should all strive to have our own beliefs and traditions for our own little broods.

Merry Xmas by the way LOL

Re: Ho Ho Ho

I must say the only version of christmas I know is the christian story...

But having said that, we are emphasising the meaning of christmas to our children. I never knew the magic of christmas, it was always such a hurried stressful (and so much yelling!!) time of year, and I have always dreaded it. My husband seemed to have magical festive seasons and is trying very hard to introduce me to the spirit of it all, and its slowly working. For no other reason than for our children.  We are trying to show Liam that its about family, doing things together, and most of all, selflessness.

We actually saw the most incredible thing this morning. There was a lady pulled up near one of those  charity donation bins. She had her boot open. It was chockablock full of wrapped gifts, all which went into the donation bin. I honestly couldnt beleive it. I had never seen anything like it. I actually cried ( i  know, i ve turned into an emotional sook lately, i dont understand it at all.)

Re: Ho Ho Ho
Xmas in my family is always magic..... and when u see the smile and glee on their faces on xmas day, how it makes u feel that everything else in the world that has happened during the year doesnt matter...

And my children also know the religious side of xmas as well...

Re: Ho Ho Ho
Hi
We told ours that Santa was "real" until YOU stop believing as "Santa" to them was the magic.
Once you stop believing in the magic it is gone

Re: Ho Ho Ho
Kids learn soon enough that it is mostly fable and for the majority of kids it doesn't scar them for life.....i think in this day and age teaching them about sharing, forgiveness, celebrating friends and family are the essense of Christmas for us and that, as the Grinch learnt, Christmas doesn't come from a store...although when you are 7 it sure helps and a little fantasy doesn't hurt.

Re: Ho Ho Ho
I have not yet told my younger ones the truth as i love seeing their eyes when they see santa in the shops etc... here. They have had children tell them santa is not real but i have told them always believe in what you want and do not let anyone tell you different if you have dreams they can not will come true! Thank you for this advice was good reading.

Re: Ho Ho Ho
I too have told my older children the same thing and they know how special it is the gift that saint nick has given to everyone.
