Advice to protect teeth from tooth decay over the festive season.

supertooth by supertooth Talking(December 2007) (rank 140th)

Merry Chtristmas and Happy New year without Tooth Decay

Although easily prevented, even with fluoride, oral hygiene and dental health education, tooth decay is still the most common and expensive disease with the economic impact of other food related diseases like heart disease and diabetes.http://www.ada.org.au/DAM05/_DHW2005.asp

Supertooth and Good Food Friends use science to find a better evidence-based way to NDK that may also help reduce other food related diseases.

Over 80% of cavities occur inside teeth, at the bottom of small deep pits and fissures of grooves in chewing surfaces where saliva and fluoride have no access to neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth. http://www.dentalhealthfoundation.org

Prevention is easy and convenient

Only a fraction of food is trapped in grooves compared to food trapped between teeth at every meal or snack yet over 80% of cavities occur inside grooves.

Fillings and fissure sealant treatment at the dentist, blocks food from being trapped and changed to acid inside grooves while eating, limiting decay a further 50%.

Chewing non-cariogenic foods THAT ARE HARD TO DISPLACE like nuts before eating displaces previously trapped food and helps block food being trapped while eating.

Chewing nuts after eating helps displace meals or snacks and limit acid demineralisation.

Chewing fibre foods like celery after eating, ESPECIALLY THE STRING helps saliva dilute carbohydrate like sugar, neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth.

You still need to brush twice a day but floss or remove trapped food from between teeth first to provide easy access for fluoride toothpase and saliva between teeth to neutralise any acid and remineralise demineralised tooth.

Brushing does not force fluoride inside grooves where 80% of cavities occur so register at www.supertoothndk.org for information on how to chew toothpase before brushing and to monitor your dental health every year tooth decay
