How to get value out of children's clothes. |

It can be alot of fun buying for baby. It can also get very expensive. Most of my first child's clothes were given to us by friends or family. As she grew I had to buy her bigger clothes, I would layby her clothes occassionally to spread out the cost,
while they were on sale. Being on a budget I was struggling. So I now buy from op shops and at clearance sales. If you have the time or the patience you can find good quality clothing and save a great deal of money. Also if you can find good quality brands you can always sell them when they will be inevitable outgrown, to second hand re sellers or even on line eg ebay. For example I might buy a brand name dress fo my girl at a sale for 70% retail. She could wear it a few times and because its still in good condition I could make my money back when I sell it. I also buy the best for my eldest boy because I know if it is quality it will last through both my boys. Also buy a size bigger than your child fits if you can as they grow so fast. Jeans and long sleeved tees turned up or folded looks cool and even trendy!
It is also nice if they have special clothes they wear maybe once. For example, the clothing they wear home from the hospital or on their naming day. These can be kept in tissue so the child can appreciate how small and cute they once were. Also if you knit, sew or crochet it is lovely to have made some special and unique things. I love to knit when I am pregnant especially and love that my kids can wear my creations.
To care for your children's clothes and to help make them last longer, follow washing instructions and wash and dry inside out - this means the colours are less likely to fade. I buy cotton mostly as my son as severe eczema and it is more gentle on the skin than say, polyester. Yes, it does take longer to dry on the line but cotton clothing seems also to lasts longer and wear better.
