We all love summer and being able to head down to the beach or the pool. Summer is also a time of heat, humidity and searing sun rays!
According to experts, one of the most dangerous factors during excessively hot weather is the addition of high humidity and where
there is humidity there is alot of sweating... which can lead to dehydration..
Perspiration (sweating) cools the body, which isn't a bad thing as long the the fluids that are lost are replaced.
The following things can speed up the loss of fluids:
Being out in the sun or sunburn.
Drinks with caffeine such as many of our fav soft drinks / soda's
High temperatures and high humidity
Being active like playing sport.
So there are a few things we can do to replace the fluids to prevent becoming dehydrated:
Drinking plenty of water, eating water icey poles.
Eating waterbased fruits like watermelon or frozen orange segments
For babies extra bottlefeeds or breatsfeed will be required on hot days.
Other ways to keep cool on hot days are:
Try using a fan with a wet sheet or pillow case or muslin blanket in front of it. Ensuring the fan is out of reach by little fingers...
You could also use a spray bottle like they have in hairdressers and set it to fine mist and spay cool water over you and bubs.
Remember to Slip, Slop, Slap when headed outside, Wide brimed hat, light coloured shirts and a good quality sunscreen.
In a time of global warming I am not going to recommend we all put our aircons on and cool down that way. Im not saying never use it but use it sparingly...
If u have a blow up pool or a baby bath u could fill this part way up and have some water play in the SHADE.
Try to avoid the sun in the middle of they day.
Head to the shopping centers or librarys they are usually airconditioned...
I hope this helps...
