Babies and computers

evarmint by evarmint Speaking(January 2008) (rank 500+)

If your kids are like mine, they want to use the computer just about as soon as they can crawl.    The problem is that all they know how to do is pound on the keyboard.  A normal application doesn't do well with this kind of treatment, because random

keypresses generally do not produce results infants are interested in (so they can't learn).  Even worse, banging on the keys can cause appliations to crash or exit, exposing your desktop to possible harm.

I'm a software developer, and I wanted my little kids to be able to use the computer safely and be able to have fun by learning, so I wrote a program called PixelWhimsy that turns the computer into a toy.  Children can learn how to use it and they can't exit it without typing in a special code.    Every key on the keyboard plays a different sound and does something unique, and you can also draw with the mouse using regular or animated colors.   It's a playable screensaver too, so you don't have to log in to your computer in order for your kids to play.   The best thing about it is that adults even enjoy playing with it, so you can have great fun along with your children.

You can download PixelWhimsy from www.pixelwhimsy.com.

Sounds like a good idea. I have used a few of these type of programs which I found on the net, both for my kids and now my nephew when he comes over. I will have to have a try of yours as well. Thanks
