An alternative to the tooth fairy bringing money

monyq83 by monyq83 Young Parent(January 2008) (rank 10th)
Ive decided that I no longer want the tooth fairy to bring my children money. I know it sounds kinda mean but I think my kids can have more fun without it. My son only spends his money on lollies, which turns him into a sugar-induced monster, and I hate that.
Im trying to cut as much sugar out of my kids' diets as possible and when the tooth fairy came the other night, after having very little sugar for so long, whoa... you should have seen the sugar tornado that swept thru the house! Also... in my house, sometimes the tooth fairy cant come for a little while because she sometimes cant even afford a dollar. She's one busy fairy you know. And she has lots of bills to pay. So Ive decided to send her an email and ask her for an alternative.
Ive decided that Id like her to bring vouchers. These vouchers are for things that dont involve money. And they are only to involve me and the child that lost the tooth. Or if you are a family with a father that goes away alot for work or doesnt have much time to spend with the kids, maybe you can make it for dad and child to spend a day together doing something special when he gets time.
Ive decided that Id like to take my child to the park, just me and him. Or to the movies if the tooth fairy can afford to buy us some movie tickets. Or just an hour alone while someone minds the kids, doing something that my child decides to do.
Im really looking forward to the next time he looses a tooth. Hes gonna hate not getting lollies, but I think he will remember the alone time we spend together and cherish it alot more than he will a packet of lollies.
Hope you like my idea and can get some use out of it too.

Great idea. Money isn't always the answer for everything. :-)

Excellent idea. The tooth fairy that comes to our place sometimes puts the money in the piggy bank for my son. Leisa

That's a really great idea, especially for people who have a low cash flow or people who are parents who don't have enough time to spend with their kids usually.

This is a great idea Mony...........these days the tooth fairy costs a lot of money as I was told by my oldest when he lost his first tooth.......a note for the first tooth and then gold for all after.........I was like OMG....what????

This is a lovely alternative and much more memorable for everyone.
