first aid kits

MissKelly by MissKelly Speaking(January 22nd) (rank 156th)

These are things we always carry in our firstr aid kit. having boys and a husband means I ALWAYS HAVE A FIRST AID KIT WITH ME! If you are on an outing or even at home and someone sustains an injury that looks as though it may require stitches but it is not a long wound then clean it out thourhgly and close the wond and put super glue on it. This really does work on small wounds or wounds that are in awkward places that tend to reopen. Another handy item for the kit when you are hiking or traveling is to have horse leg wrap. This sounds odd but is cheap and comes in colors and is very handy for sprains or possible broken bones to support the area till you can get the person to help. This is an item that can be found at animal, farm, or horse supply stores. IT is a kind of wrap that sticks to itself and in our family has even been used to keep bandages on and to keep a toenail from completely falling off durring a week long canoe trip. Another item I try to keep is A and D diaper ointment. This is used if you have a wound that keeps getting wet or bandage wont stick to. This product is like a barrier and keeps the dirt and dirty water off the wound. This has come in handy when fishing, swimming, or kyaking. I just want everyone to have a first aid kit handy. You just never know and with some thought your first aid kit can be the best for your needs. Hope this helps!

Re: first aid kits

I have a couple of different sized kits that I have for home, backpack and car too, it makes sense to be able to care for yourself and others.  It would be good to expand on this by listing the basics needed for a good kit, where to access them, and to keep your supplies and skills up to date.

Re: first aid kits

I hope that my first aid suggestions has made all parents think of the importance a first aid kit IS!

Everyone should have one at home in each vehicle, and take one on all outings or vacations!

Beleive me it is beteer to be safe than sorry and accidents are called that because you never mean for them to happen, but they might!

Please be safe!

Good tips. And just wanted to add that it's always a great idea to take a course in First Aid and CPR.
