The truth about Castor Oil |

OK so most of us know about the "old wives tale" of using Castor Oil to induce labour... heres what I have found when trying to induce my own labour at 40 weeks with Castor Oil...
Well I think the main problem with the castor oil theory is
to many people have been misinformed on how to use it. I read some women were taking 100mls at once! Thats why you get sick, you are only ment to take 1 - 2 tablespoons 20 - 40 mls, then another 1 - 2 tablespoons an hour later and thats IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it doesnt have a taste so taking it with orange juice isnt needed, just have something to drink after you have had it to remove the feeling it leaves behind, which u would expect from oil.
As for it giving you severe diarreorh, this will only happen if u take to much of it at once... Yes its used as a laxetive, but it needs to be taken in smaller doses. Taking to much can also cause problems for your baby, like causing the baby to get diarreoah resulting in the passing of meconium into the amniotic fluid.
OK so i took the recommended dose and I havent experienced any "runs". I did have labour pains all night, about 5 mins apart but i was so exhasted from being up all day that i fell asleep only to wake up and have no pains.. so I dont know if it works or not, i think it just depends on the individual!
Before considering to use this method please talk to your midwife or doctor fitst, i done this on the advice of my midwife!
