In my opinion
The most annoying adverts you see on TV
Are those beautiful woman
Strolling along the beach
Smiling Happily in their light flimsy dress
Because they have found the secret to happiness
Yes they have discovered the towels with wings
Or the tampons that are presented like little sweets !!!!!!!!
What I want to know is where is the average woman in this scenario, you know the one that looks more like me, stressed, spotty, cramped up and hormonal, who doesn't care that there are some amazing pretty towels/tampons on the market, we just want people to back off and leave us alone !!!!!!!
It is said that the average woman loses an egg cup full of blood every month !!! What they forget to add is that the said eggcup is the one that Jack took from the giants castle when we climbed up the beanstalk, or at least that is what it feels like !!!
The hard thing for us mums with daughters is to educate our daughter into believing that periods are a sign they are growing up and its something to celebrate LOL Who are we kidding ?????
Although I am having a light hearted look at this subject, we all know this is nothing to laugh about. It is vitally important we prepare our daughters for all facets of what to expect with our periods.
Yes, in a way, a young girl starting her period is something to celebrate, it is a big turning point in the young girls life, it brings with it a whole new set of possibilitles that we also have to educate our daughters on.
Apart from the obvious that we all know and warn our children about, here are some other important points to teach our daughters.
Hygiene
Especially during our period, it is vital we keep clean, it is absolutely fine to bath during your period and seeing that most of us are very conscious of the fear of feeling dirty or smelly, a bath is also great at relaxing us and helping with any cramps
Disposal
Is there ever a worst sight you could come across then a rolled up sanitary towel on the floor of a public toilet !!!!!!!!!! We must teach our daughters to always dispose of soiled towels/tampons in the correct fashion, this does NOT mean flushing down the toilet, causing blocks etc. It could be as simple as always having a bin with a lid in the bathroom and showing them how to wrap the item in toilet roll before disposing sensibly
Being Prepared
Never be caught short, always make sure you have spares. The regular cycle is 5 days of every 28 days but we all know and can remember those times when we have been caught unprepared and find an empty packet !!!!!!!! I taught my daughter to always buy her stock the time of the month she was already on, it was a way of reminding her for next time.
My daughter is very lucky, she has a caring boyfriend that runs her baths and rubs her back and provides her with hot water bottles during her worst days, that is what I would wish for my sons future partners too. So don't make periods only about your daughters
And remember, smile, we are woman who are lucky to experience these periodic moments in time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
