A friend at work introduced me to Oil of Oregano. She hasn’t been sick in years, and she takes it everyday, and hasn’t had any bad side effects. I’m doing some research on it, and figured I could share it all with you!
Oil of oregano
has antioxidant and antibiotic properties, along with being anti-bacterial, and an analgesic. Back in the 90s there was a super virus of some sort (for the life of me, I can’t remember what it was called) going around central and western Canada. It was immune to pretty much all the antibiotics. The only thing that could kill this virus was oil of oregano.
Things that Oil of Oregano is good for:
Allergies – It contains an ingredient called rosmarinic acid, which is a natural antihistamine.
Acne – Some acne is caused by bacteria. Being naturally antibacterial, applying a drop of oil before bed time, and again in the morning, can help speed up healing.
Arthritis – It’s a pain reliever, and has anti-inflammatory properties, so massaging a few drops of oil into the affected area’s can help reduce pain and inflammation.
Athlete’s foot – Oil of oregano can call lots of different fungi and bacteria. A couple drops repeated over a day or so should help clear up athlete’s foot, and the like.
Colds – The steam from a couple drops put in steaming hot water can help loosen up colds and congestion.
Dandruff – Mix a few drops of oil in with your shampoo and no more flakes! (tee tree oil is good for this too!)
Disinfectant – To cut down on the amount of harsh chemicals you use to clean your home, try mixing a few drops into a bucket of hot water and using that to clean! It’ll kill the germs on your counter top, toilet, etc
Mosquito repellant- Bugs hate the smell!!! And if they do manage to hold their breath long enough to bit you, a dab of oil will help stop the stinging and itching.
Read the label before you buy though, there are a lot of sub-par products out there. It’s best to buy from a registered herbalist.
If you’re allergic to marjoram, basil, hyssop, sage or mint, talk to you’re herbalist before taking oil of oregano.
If you’re breast feeding or pregnant, you shouldn’t take oil of oregano either, as it hasn’t been studied for adverse effects to fetuses, and may cause a decrease in milk production.
This definitely is something that I’m going to be adding to my medicine cabinet!
xx.
