Free Toddler Outing - Fire Station

Whitney by Whitney Talking Back(July 2006) (rank 79th)
Today I took my son to the fire station where they welcomed our visit.

If you have a little one who has an interest in fire trucks, this is a great destination.

We knocked on the door and I asked the man who answered if we could look at the fire truck because none were parked out front.  He acted as if this were the most normal request in the world.  They gave us a plastic firehat, a stick on badge and allowed us to check out the truck.  My son is too young to want to get in it, but I'm sure that would have been no problem if we asked.

Next time your child needs some motivation to get the car, offer to go to the fire station!

right on
My parents were both firies, and kids were ALWAYS scared. they did demonstrations at school and explained all the gear, but to a kid trapped in a fire, they look like aliens.

Great idea for child safety.
I think getting a young child used to a fireman is a great idea. I was watching something on TV the other day and the fireman was saying that the only time children ever see them is when they are fully outfitted in their fire suit in a dark, smoky, hot, burning place. And because of this, some children run away from them during rescue. If they get familiar with firemen, they will not be as scared during emergency rescues.

Love It!
I did the same witth my kids a couple year ago and they loved it!  The firemen were so nice.  I think they enjoy sharing what they do with the little  ones.  Great suggestion.
