Introducing animals to the Family

teresawonderess by teresawonderess Speaking(February 2008) (rank 331st)
Introducing animals to the Family can be a very rewardring or harrowing experience. Generally its rewarding however. There has been documented facts about an animal being too rough or playful for your child. A dog especially a puppy is generally a bad idea if you have toddlers running around as they'll
tend to want to play with your toddlers all the time and could accidently push them over or jump all over them and hurt them. A bigger dog can sometimes be viscious if the toddlers annoy them while they're eating. Also in general animals can carry foreign diseases form outside to the inside as they are more prone and sensitive to diseases than humans. Tape worm and ring worm are two of the things that they can bring into the home. Best to make sure that they've either had their injections or that as soon as you get them you get them their injections. While you're at it you might aswel have your kids get some of their injections aswel so that these injections can help them not get sick so easy. Thankyou I hope this helps Love Teresa

Re: Introducing animals to the Family

I have always had pets, usually cats but after an unfortunate incident with a car wheel..may simba my cat RIP, we decided to get a dog. We opted for a labrador as htey have a good reputation for being good with kids and apparently they are meant to be very smart...looks like we got a reject this time lol. Jett is so good with the kids and has copped a few accidental boots to the head and his tail would bear the faint footprint mark but on the whole, he is as placid as anything. We are lucky, he never barks unless we command him to, he has never dug holes or ripped the washing off the line but he is as silly as a wheel! Everyone told us that labs take about 5 yrs to grow up....we are 2 yrs past that ...but we r still waiting!

Re: Introducing animals to the Family

Maybe pets are not for everyone with small children but dogs of any age and size can be great with children and most have no problems at all.

Think of all the genertions of people that were raised with animals or pets in the house and grew up just fine.

Cats are fine IF they are declawed, children stay away from the litter box and the cats dont jump in their beds or on the tables and countertops.

My opiinion is that it is up to individual families and the amount of supervision they are willing to give to the pets and the small children.

Thanks for the article. It will make some people think before rushing out to get a pet becasue the kids want one.

Good article....and each household is different.

Both my kiddies were raised with and around puppies and we never had any problems.

I think CONSTANT supervision between the two are a must if you want things to work.

Well done for writting this article! I must say i dont agree with the puppy in the home as we have a puppy , big and small dogs,  snakes ect.  I believe if you have a puppy or kitten ect its up to us older people to install good behaviour just like we do with our kids. Just my thoughts anyway. Well done and thanks for sharing.
