How can I tell if its the real thing or just Braxton Hicks? |

I was just talking to a woman who is having really bad back pain at 39 weeks, and was unsure whether it's the real thing or if she is just experiencing b/h contractions.
Here's a handy hint my mum taught me when I was pregnant:
If in
doubt, take a bath. If they are b/h they should ease off a bit, and you should feel more relaxed. Also it will help with your backache.
But if it is the real thing, they will get stronger and you will know that this is definately it.
Keep in mind too that if your baby is breech you will feel most of the pain in your back. If you are in doubt it wont hurt to call your midwife or go down to your local hospital just in case. Never be afraid that the nurses will think you are just panicking over nothing - that's what their job is - to check whether you really are in labour or not. Good luck and enjoy your birth!
