Make the movies "family time" again!

haridevana by haridevana Standing(February 2008) (rank 500+)

I have been concerned about my kids watching movies that have unwanted material be it adult situations or profanity or gore.  So I did some searching and found a dvd player that filters movies.  This was the only one that survived copyright infringement lawsuit of hollywood.  I bought the

dvd player.  For the movies I have at home (which I was hiding from my kids so far :)) I downloaded filters from their website.  This was as easy as searching for the movie and hitting download to the memory stick.  Then I put the memory stick into the dvd player, copied it over.  Then played the movie.  The storyline was completely unaffected.  It just muted bad words and skipped over bad scenes.  My son and I had a great time watching Terminator 2 without unwanted stuff.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to all parents that are like me.  Here is the

Re: Make the movies "family time" again!

hi there,

It's amazing what technology can do these days and in theory this is a good thing . . However, personally I prefer to stick to "G" rated movies and also to watch them myself before my children do . . .  This is my job as a parent, sometimes I think we let technology step in too often . . .

My 8 yr-old is still only allowed to watch "G" rated and I still censor everything else before she allowed to watch it . .  I personally also sit down and watch movies with my daughter . . . .

Sorry if this seems harsh its just I believe that technology has it place. This technology would be great is schools, Day care centres and Creches  . ..

Cheers Kellz

that's interesting!  i hadn't heard of this before and it's good insurance for movies you haven't seen yet.

Great advice.  While it work in the home, it is still hard to control what kids watch outside of the home.  I think that the vigilance of parents is still the best way to go, but then again, you did that and enjoyed a movie that would have otherwise been unwatchable by your child.
