Pelvic Inflammitary Disease

emmie by emmie Talking Back(February 2008) (rank 31st)

Pid is an infection that passes from the vagina through the neck of the womb, through the womb and up to the fallopion tubes. It can also get to the overies if its left long enough.

Bacteria and micro- organisms can find their way through the vagina, cervix and

reproductive organs. A bacterial infection can cause inflammation in these organs and their surroundings. This is most common in the fallopeon tubes.

Pid causes tenderness in both sides of the lower abdomen. It can also cause fever and general discomfort. Finally this infection can be leading to heavy painful or non existant periods and also sometimes vaginal discharge.

In some women , pid may of resulted from a childbirth or sometimes if you have sexual intercourse with a new partner. But most often no specific reason for this disease can be given .

Your doctor will at first do blood tests and a pelvic examination to feel for a little lump that is often in the lower abdomen. But your doctor wont prescribe you anti-biotics for this disease until they know for sure you have it. This is usually is fount out follwing laproscopy.

Even though pid is a relitively harmless condition if not treated quickly and effectivly , it can cause permenant damage to the fallopeon tubes. This makes it very difficult for the sperm to pass through to the egg and highly increases the risk of infertility and ectopic pregnancys

This can also form absesseson the pelvis and a operation is usually nessesary !

Dont let the problem persist go to see your doctor today.

Re: Pelvic Inflammitary Disease

I had PID for so many years now and it's a nightmare.  I had to have emergency surgery about 2 weeks after my girl was born because of the infection.  I want to add that if you have ovarian cycts you are more prone to getting the infection, and if you have had it once, the chance of you getting it increase, and the more you have it reoccur, the worse and more often you can get it.  It certainly is not something to mess with, nor ignore....Thanks for the article Emz.... A+

Re: Pelvic Inflammitary Disease

Hey Letti ,

Really? Thats so true it is a very nasty infection i had PID (july 05 before i fell with chloe) i was only bleeding every 6 - 12  months nobody could understand why tests after tests everything was clear i could not for the lifeof me fall pregnant they decided they would give me a laproscopy before referring me for ivf treatment well it wasnt very pretty when they opened me up i had a terrible case of PID so bad they had to open me further to be able to free my tube that was stuck in my pelvis i had tests to check my fertility the results come back at 2%luckily soon after i managed to fall pregnant but the surgeon said i must of had it at least a few years to cause so much damage and i was told the chances are it will be back to haunt me lol

Thanks

Love Emz xx
