One of the most overlooked emotions we go through as parents
Is simply having fun
We worry so about getting everything right
Its okay to sometimes get it wrong too
Just as long as you have fun along
the way
When we recently went to Iceland, my boys loved it that I had a go at the Sledging alongside them, thats because contrary to how I must sometimes come over to everyone. I really do enjoy having a laugh and having fun.
Who would have thought riding down on a piece of plastic, screaming and getting snow in places you don’t want to even know about would actually make me go up in my boys estimation !!!!
They loved it that even though I was pretty rubbish at it, I at least had a go and best of all even when I fell I kept laughing and went back for another go
There are so many times in our journey as Parents we forget how to have Fun, we have so much on our plate and we believe that by putting shoes on their feet, food in their tummy and a smile on their face we are good parents, but our children also need to see us having fun with them.
What better way to show your child how much you love them and enjoy being with them than by having fun with them.
it doesn’t mean everyone has to dig out their sledges, its so easy to have fun with your child. You can play board games with them, playing mime games like charades is excellent as they also get to see you acting silly too !!!!
Even watching a funny show on TV together and laughing together about it should be a part of your “funtime”
Fun is spending time with your child and having a laugh with them. Doesn't matter if its you they are laughing at, in fact that is the best way of getting your child to look at you in a whole new light.
Just relax sit back and laugh with your child
Bath times can be fun, I have before when they were younger told the boys off for splashing !!!!!!! Of course I realised how ridiculous what else are children going to do when water is around. Naturally there is a limit, no one wants water all up the walls or dripping through the ceilings but think ahead and put a towel on the floor ready and sit back and watch them enjoy their bathtime.
Have your own crazy time. We used to do this with music, put on the music channel and dance, winner would be who could put all the others of dancing because they were laughing so much. Funny how my children would always be laughing at me even when I wasn't trying to be silly LOL
Role Play is great fun. My daughter was always getting little “plays” together for me to watch, she would love it if I was to join in and be another character from her imagination.
The simple act of reading to your child is so much more interesting and fun for the child if you read the story and become the characters by doing different voices.
A child that is taught the value of Fun, is also likely to bond better with their parents
