Hi all!
I will now be known as the new Martha Stewart ok..lol as i had the best brainwave and became very crafty today!
So, how does a child learn to do up buttons on their clothes? If they are anything like my kids, then they will flatly
refuse you helping them to dress and want to do it themselves. This is all great until all the buttons fall of their prized new pyjamas meaning you have to break out the sewing kit and stitch on the buttons only for them to fall off the next time your kids pull at the buttons too hard. It doesn't seem to matter that I have used a metre of cotton and one would think a ten tonne man couldn't budge those buttons but in the fingers of a 3 yr old, they come apart like fairy floss!
Anyway, me being the new Martha Stewart (as I said hehe) I thought there has to be a better way for the littlies to practice SO..I invented (if u will) my very own button board!
You will need:
An A4 piece of cardboard decorated if you like
A large piece of material able to fit onto the cardboard (but not bigger than cardboard)
5-6 different buttons
Adhesive
Using the material, I c ut it in half and on one piece, I sewed some different buttons on along the right hand side of the material. With the other piece of material, I placed the egde just over the row of buttons and using a stanley, I s liced thin openings to make button holes making sure the openings measure up with the buttons. Do up the buttons and then using some adhesive, g lue down the left edge of the material, along the left hand side of the piece of cardboard. Then stick down the right hand side of the material onto the right side of the cardboard (thats a mouth full isnt it lol) The aim is for it to resemble the front of a shirt..without any sleeves..kind of..as I said..thats the aim lol! The button holes may end up fraying a bit so if you are really keen, you could make proper button holes to prevent this happening.
And voila!! Your very own button board! Instead of your kids practicing their button techniques on their new jim-jams and buttons rolling off onto the floor, then why not make one of these boards and let them practice on that. It is very easy to make..providing you can understand my feeble attempt at instructions..and are materials you more than likely have hanging about your house.
Give it a go..
