When kids won't drink milk.

loopylisa by loopylisa Talking(March 2008) (rank 252nd)

If your child doesn't drink milk-like one of mine, I have introduced calcium in other ways;;

Cheese-full fat cheese,full fat cheese spreads,babybels,cheese slices. Yoghurts,whole milk are best but mine like low fat ones with fruit bits in.Fromage frais,cremefraich-both can be used in mashed potatoes for a creamy taste.Orange juice-fresh-calcium

is absorbed better when drunk with a meal.Fresh orange also has vit c. Foods such as beans,broccoli,spinach,curly kale and tofu.

I am of the same mind, as llmunchkin. I would love to see this article more developed for a better rating - to include why it's important to have calcium - and therefore why it's important to think of other substitute should the child refuse cow's milk.

Re: When kids won't drink milk.

Hi Lisa, these are good tips for parents who have kids that don't like milk.  I would have liked to score it higher and I would if you included some information about the importance of milk/dairy/calcium/iron and the other nutrients that are essential for healthy growing bones.  Some other alternatives for people to try would be good too, like fish, leafy greens and other sources of calcium.  For example soy milk, or flavouring your milk naturally and making fruit smoothies etc.  Anyway great effort and it is good to see you so enthusiastic about posting advice.

Re: When kids won't drink milk.

One of my very good friend's has 3 boys who don't like milk, cheese or yoghurt. She has learnt to put cream and cheese in everything. It's so frustrating.
