My 'quick cures'.

loopylisa by loopylisa Talking(March 2008) (rank 252nd)

I also know some quick cures for ailments that my nan has told me about and I have used these myself.

CONJUNCTIVITUS-Clean eyes with a cotton wool pad dipped in cool boiled water. Move outwards from the inside corner of the eye, throw each pad away after each wipe. You

can place thin cucumber slices over your eyes to soothe itchiness. Cucumber can also be used for 'tired' eyes.

DANDRUFF-Simmer 4 heaped tablespoons of dried thyme in 500ml of warm water for 10 mins. Strain and cool, then pour half the mixture over just washed, damp hair, covering all of your scalp-it doesn't smell very nice! Massage it in but don't rinse. You can use the rest of the mixture again next time, that's if you want to!!.

BAD BREATH- I eat fresh parsley-a natural deodoriser. I have heard if a teaspoon of jam can work also but I haven't tried that.

COLD SORES-Apply ice at the first sign. Dab on witch hazel or neat teatree up to 3 times a day-it hurts.Another I have used is perfume or aftershave but it's agony-prepare to go through the ceiling!

SPOTS-Tea tree, perfume and aftershave have an astringent effect abd dry the spot out.

FLU REMEDY- I love this one. Rub Vicks Vaporub on the soles of your feet every night while ill(put socks on to protect bedding). It sounds really daft but I've done lots of times and it works.

Re: My 'quick cures'.

Good tips you have given here.

As HarrisonsMommy says conjunctivitis is contagious.  I have known people who just wash it out  with the warm water or saline solution and have had sucess in getting rid of it,  but i have always had to use antibiotics to get rid of it with my kids.

The feet one is realy good, and pepperment oil is another that works well on feet!

Excellent suggestions.  I would just add that the conjuntivitis needs to be treated with antibiotics and that it is highly contagious.  But as one who has had it a gazillion times, might have to give the cucumber a go for the irritation.

Re: My 'quick cures'.

Anything that stay's away from too many chemicals is worth a try in my book. I love the one about Vick's on the feet,LOL, never heard of that one, but if I get a bout of flu, might just give it a go. Thanks for sharing.
