Easter hat help.

Re: Help!!!! Easter Hat Parade
Asked by angelmum

Question:
I just read in my sons newsletter I have to make him a easter hat for the parade hmmm little thing I forgot about... I don't have an artistic bone in my body, does anyone

have any ideas or websites or something.... anything to help me.... or would someone like to do it for me lol  I can't even come up with an idea, I don't want him to be one of those kids with the most pathetic hat in the parade HELP!!!

My Advice:
Hi there. My sister just phoned wth the same question. Don't worry. I found a website with perfect step by step instructions and photographs to make a boys hat which is actually quite sweet. A small boy is making it in the photos, so I am expecting it to be relatively simple. I will be trying it over the weekend with my nephews. Hope this helps and the link works.

Re: Easter hat help

My son won a few years ago with a massive Creme Egg hat!!

We covered a balloon in papier mache, burst the balloon when dry, trimmed the bottom to fit his head, covered the bottom 3/4 in Creme Egg wrappers (took loads, how awful having to eat them all!!!), cut the top off as if it was "broken", painted the remainder chocolate brown, then filled the open top by gluing in white kitchen roll and orange tissue paper. It looked just like a massive Creme Egg! Fantastic! My son loved helping to make it - easy for a four-year old to stick paper and to do painting - so it was a real joint effort. First prize was his, without hesitation, and he didn't mind wearing it!

Re: Easter hat help.

One of the strengths of Minti is that we are in all the time zones, so there is always someone awake and Minti-ing when you cant sleep!

I cheated a bit and bought a straw hat from a cheap shop in town (The Works - UK) and then we made tissue paper flowers on pipecleaners and threaded them through the straw hat and then tissue-papered some empty (washed) eggshells and wrapped a pipecleaner round to fix them to the har, then glued some ready-made chicks and coloured feathers all over the hat. Dont suppose she'll win, but she had fun - loads of glue used!
