As a young stay-at-home mum I have found it really important for me to make time for interaction with other mums and bubs and adults in general. A day out can really boost my morale and Reuben seems to really appreciate it too.I have been surprised by how much
more productive I am with housework and how much better I generally feel when I plan regular outings. I went through a stage when I couldnt be bothered to organise anything and the difference with how I feel in myself is amazing. Here are some ideas for things to do
Visit the Library: Going to the library can take as long or short as you like, a lot of librarys have lounges to sit and read a story to your baby. A brand new picture book is always a hit with Reuben. Take advantage of any baby or toddler programs your library might be running. This is especially good if you are low on funds.
Arange to Meet other Mums: For execrise get together with mums in your area for a weekly (or once off) walk at a local park, beach, river, lake or even just around the neighbourhood. For a chat try meeting for brunch or a coffee.
Take Baby Swimming Classes: Early swimming lessons help to drown-proof your baby, you still dont leave them unattended near water obviously but if they should happen to fall into water all that learning to float ect. could save their life. You dont need actual classes either. Reuben loves his bath time and fun with Mum and/or Dad at the pool is always a big hit .
Mothers Group + Play Group : If you have a really young baby a mothers group would probably be better than a play group. As i understand it the difference is Play Goups are about getting lots of kids and their mothers (fathers or carers too)together in a public place and the kids tend to be between the ages of 1-4. Mothers groups are a bit more intimate and usually the babys are all around a similar age. Both are great for a chat with like minded people and for your baby to learn to relate to other kids. Talking to other Mums can be especially important for first time mums. Its good to have others who are in the same boat so to speak to talk about the highs and lows of being a full time Mum.
See a Movie: Lots of cinemas have special mums and bubs and also kids screenings on certain days.
Go Shopping!: This can be either a trip to the grocery store or post office or fun shopping for the sake of it.
Have a DIY Photoshoot Somewhere Outdoors. I think every visit to the shops, park, or garden is a good excuse to take some really nice pics. Its always nice to get them printed and frame them up too. Its amazing how nice fun, natural photos can turn out.
Have a Picnic: Even if your baby is too young to eat solids himself you can still enjoy the fresh air and sunshine together.
VIsit a Zoo or Wildlife Park: This is best if you enjoy the zoo yourself as some babys may not find it any more amusing than an ordinary walk in a park.
Volunteer to Visit Elderly. Old people often adore really young people and vica versa. There are lots of elderly living in Homes with no visitors for months, sometimes years, on end. Having a beautiful little baby visitor will make their month! Reuben is a really social baby who loves chatting to anyone who will give him a smile, if your baby finds strangers scary this probably wouldn't be as enjoyable.
Any community Events: once offs ,like festivals ,or weekly like sunday markets.
The main thing is to get out there, have some fun and enjoy time with your child whatever age they are because they are only that age once. I hope these suggestions have given you some activities to try and perhaps sparked some inspiration for new things you can do with your bub.
