Getting kids to help round the house

monyq83 by monyq83 Young Parent(March 19th) (rank 9th)

Recently I had the best idea. Wanted to share it with you all because its working really well in my house and I hope that it can help you too.

During the past week, my kids have been assigned jobs to do once a day, usually before they go to bed.

My youngest son is too young to be able to rely on to do this just yet, but I am hoping next year when he is 3 he might be old enough.

This works best for larger families, of 3 kids or more.

Ive assigned my eldest two a job each, something that I always forget to do, and it is their duty to make sure it gets done by the time they go to bed at night. They get to be the boss of that task, which gives them a sense of responsibility and accomplishment.

So it's my eldest's job to remember that all the toys need to be picked up before they go to bed so he is now boss of the toys, and it's my 4yo's job to remind everyone to brush their teeth, so he is the boss of toothbrushing.

So far it's worked a charm, and my eldest is so excited about being the boss of the toys tonight he has been talking about it all day lol.

Thought you guys might get some use out of that idea.

Good luck everyone!
