Every now and then we all need a little extra help with our day to day regime of eating and general well being.I think that a few easy and relatively painless changes can benefit ourselves as well as our children. These suggestions are really easy and may even help your
childs health more than your own!
Aim to eat a broad spectrum of colour in every meal to ensure the best mix of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Encourage children to eat wholegrain cereals rather than the ones aimed at kids.Mine love fruit and fibre, porridge, weetabix, shredded wheat etc. The salt and sugar content in these cereals is kept to a minimum.I changed my kids to these because I found they were 'hyper' sfter the so called cereals for kids.
Aim to drink a glass of milk every day.My kids still have milk before bed.If yours don't like it you could try and make smoothies or milkshakes with fresh fruit.
Invest in a skipping rope.Mine love it and burns off loads of energy, can only be a good thing, and it's free!
Try to eat meals together when possible. You can discuss the day much easier when sat eating a good meal and sat at a table.
Have a fresh fruit salad chopped in the fridge for snacking after school or when you're peckish.I do blueberries, strawberries and kiwi, the colours are really bright and attract kiddies.
I give my kids a small piece of cheese after meals. My dentist told me it neutralises acid and prevents plaque build up-great if your kids aren't too hot at cleaning their teeth-they must still clean them though.
Introduce omega 3plus into your diets. You can buy enriched foods, eggs, margarine and yoghurts etc. Most experts, and the teaching staff at my twinnies school, say they are vital for brain healthand good for your heart.
Switch to wholegrain bread instead of white.I let mmine have white toasted but for sandwiches they eat wholegrain.I believe it's really important to eat as healthily as you can. If you think how much you could spend on crisps and biscuits you could buy lots of fresh fruit for the same value.
All kids would rather eat crisps than an apple-unless you're very lucky, but if you don't have crisps in the cupboard, yet there are apples I bet they would chose the apple. If they're hungry they will eat it.
