Question:
For the last few weeks ive had leaking from my right boob but not the left and cass gave me the tip to use nursing pads!! Well today ive been in
alot of pain :( my whole nipple is really sore and its actually clear stuff coming out, not alot but it makes my nipple stick to the pad and it pulls on it and hurts :( I hav been wearing bras but not underwire ones and i dont wear one to bed.
Is this normal for clea stuff to come out?? i thought colustrom was yellowish??

My Advice:
Colostrum is usually clear but depending on what you have eaten it can change colour I believe, including yellow. However it is generally a lot thinner than when your milk comes in. It is normal for a little bit of colostrum to leak while you are pregnant, due to changing hormones. So try not to feel embarrased if this happens when your breasts are stimulated or after a hot shower.
I'm not sure what type of nursing pads you are using but I found Lanowool Nursing Pads excellent - they have been treated with lanolin. I would recommend buying a pack of 2 as in the early weeks/ months when your milk is heaviest you may need the extra absorbency of using two for each breast. However it also depends on how long you are prepared to wait for them to dry. But as you may get to a stage where you no longer need pads (I am still breastfeeding my 5 month old and haven't used pads for months) then it may be best to wait and see how many you need. Also PURE lanolin is also great on nipples if sore, and later for nappy rash. Lansinoh is great, but Gold Cross Anhydrous Lanolin (wool fat BP) has the exact ingredients for a 1/3 of the price and you can reuse the glass jars. Make sure you have a separate jar for applying to baby's bottom!
Also make sure your bra still fits you well as your cup size may have changed - especially important to keep in mind when your milk comes in.
If you are in Australia I would recommend calling the Australian Breastfeeding Association for more information they are a terrific help!
