My experience with my first pregnancy
Well I had only been with Kenny for a short time. It was nearly a year when I found out I was pregnant. We where over the moon everything went well
during the pregnancy Except that I suffered from really bad heart burn.
I was over the 40 weeks so I had to be induced by a needle and not long after
the labour pains started. It wasn’t long before I was told ‘you have a girl’. We named her Caitlin and sadly I didn’t even get to hold my first child. I remember
there were nurses moving from left to right and centre they where everywhere.
Next minute a nurse said I had to be rushed to ICU! My mum was in the room with me along with Kenny and my Sister-in-law, all I saw was them crying and my mum devastated which wheeled me out.
I was taken to ICU where I was told that I was losing lots of blood. This scared me and all I kept asking was “am going to die?” (Yes, I know I watch way too much T.V where you often see many the mother’s die from bleeding). I found out later that the medical staff had told my mum that I may have had to have a hysterectomy; my poor mum was guttered and couldn’t tell me.
Poor Kenny was guttered as well so he went with my Sister-in-law outside to have a smoke. The nurses had taken Caitlin to the nursery where they look after
babies. I was in ICU and all I remember them saying we need more blood she has lots heaps then they knocked me out.
When I finally woke up I had no undies on and was in ICU with a nurse asking me do I shave or get it waxed? I was so embarrassed and thought to myself “how rude does she do this to everyone”
Kenny had brought Caitlin up to see me but I don’t really remember as I was so drugged up and so very sore. When I left ICU to go up to the Maternity ward I was very surprised as they gave me my own private room, which is great for public hospital.
I remember as I left the ICU I felt very sad seeing all the poor sick people that were still there. Not long after I got the best new! I didn’t have to get a hysterectomy. After settling into my new room I was forced to breast feed Caitlin immediately. I was shocked, as I had just come from ICU.
Everyone was waiting to come in and see Caitlin and me. Well that ended in
disaster as Kenny is a member to Melbourne football club he had all the cheer squad there. My family and his family pushed me out of bed and out of my room which lead me into tears and then Kenny and my sister had an argument. (Looking back we all laugh over it now)
After awhile the nurse kicked them all out as she could see that I getting very stressed and sore and also Caitlin was getting hungry. Being a new mum I would not breast feed in front of people .
After I left the hospital (I think it was day 6) I said to Kenny I cant breast feed anymore I want to sleep and recover. Kenny was good about it and so he said fine we will go to the bottle. So we did and it was the best thing. Even though I was bottle-feeding it didn’t mean I could sleep all through the night. Kenny and I had an agreement that one of us would get up and make the bottle and the other one would feed Caitlin.
So we shared the duties, which was great, but boy did I get complaints from my sister-in-law, my house was messy and my hubby should have cleaned up the poor guy nearly lost me. So here I was just out of hospital doing washing and cleaning to make her happy.
Well after all that I went through I have had another beautiful little girl and I went to the same hospital and got to iv needles one in each arm before going into labour to prevent what happened last time and i am now pregnant again and I am going to the same place
I had a natural birth again with my second and had no complications except that I was allergic to the iv cords. I also bottle fed my second little girl as well
So this is my experience
Love Bel xx
