Medications for Endometriosis
it can get but do go and see doctor and if not happy with what they have to say please get a second opinion.
We all know that females produce estrogen and males produce Testosterone. Both these hormone are important to keeping this
under control. Endometriosis is fed with lots of estrogen which our bodies do naturallly but in this case it produces much more than normal.
The aim to most of the treatment is to reduce or stop the estogen level so the bleeding stops. We all know at every month our estrogen level builds up so our body can get ready for the egg to fertilise and our linning to get thicker ready for pregnacy. By stopping the estrogen level it will stop feeding the Endometriosis growths.
This can be achieved by hormone drug treatment, but this is usually works great in the milder cases where the groths are small and not many of them. In server cases there is a surgical proceedure that can be preformed, which will to remove the growths.
There are different stages of this disease and can be refered as cysts, lesions, endometrial tissue, endometrial cells. But every doctor has there own opinion on this but these are the basic terms they would use for this disease.
Treatment opions are very limited and the medical community are still working hard to get a cure but they are are working just as hard to find out how these accure. The choices you have when it comes to treatment is Hormone treatment which is the most common Observation with no medical intervention in cases that have just started, surgery for those that have tried the hormone procedure and need to make the next step and the last choice that we have at the moment is the combined treatment which means having the surgery and having to take the hormone treatment as well.
There are risks or side effects of the treatment but your doctor would go through it with you and explain the risks and the side effects. I will give you what im aware of in the medication side: Contraception which is used in mild cases.Mostly use in young women and thats great as well for protection of pregnancy. The other that i know of is Danazol which is a mild form of male hormone testosterone which reduces the level of estrogen that is produced. The side effect of this is weight gain, increase level of facial hair, acne, smaller breasts. Gestrinone Is the synthetic hormone and the side effects are similar to the danazol but no facial hair, smaller breast ect. Progesterone hormone prevents ovulation to accure which bring down your level of estogen right down. it would also shrink endometrical growths but have similar side affects as the other treatments. The IUD that also can be used is the Merina but that can eitherwork for you and stop the bleeding or can have the revese effect and have to get it removed. There is a higher risk to having the merina of getting cysts.
I would imagine there would be alot more medications that could help with Endometriosis which i havent herd about or know about. These are the choices that i had at the time plus the surgery that i didnt need to do.
Im at the stage of Observation with no medical intervention which is now pain relief and sometimes anti inflammatories to relive the pain and swalling. The Surgery comes into play when they have tried all avenues all the meds and devises and there is nothing else left to try. Some women dont want to go through the trail and error of the medications and the side effect the elect just to do the surgery. In some cases doctors wont do it as the case is not bad enough to warrant the surgery.
I some cases falling pregnant could be a positive to this desease it build the linning to what its ment to be lol wasnt my case though it would be a excuse to have another baby.
If you suffer from this i know how bad it can get but do go and see doctor and if not happy with what they have to say please get a second opinion.
