Pregnancy, Diet and Weight Gain

Anonymous Author (April 9th)

Re: pregnancy weight?
Asked by mummyofbabydylanxo

Question:

hey their, just wondering how much weight should be put on while pregnant? and should i be concerned to watching what i eat still? and is it true to eat for two cause im 28 weeks

and im still eatting the same ammount of food that i did before being pregnant. im wondering about the weight as ive been still watching what i eat and then feel like i need to exercise after if i eat something fattning like chinease or fish and chips. i want to keep to my size and drop back when baby is born..

My Advice:

The term "Eating for two" is a very misleading one. Women often think that because they are pregnant they should be eating more to satisfy the babies needs. This is not true. Eating for two doesn't mean eating double the amount. It means eating healthier. Eating wholesome and healthy foods and cutting out the junk where possible. You want food that is packed with vitamins and minerals, proteins and especially iron as a lot of pregnant women get iron deficient. As for eating Chinese or fish and chips don't worry about it! Most things are fine in moderation!

Exercise is very important when pregnant. Gentle things like walking, pregnancy yoga and swimming are a fantastic way to keep weight gain to a minimum and keep healthy without putting too much extra stress on the body. I personally have found gentle water aerobics excellent as it takes all the extra weight off your body and is quite relaxing. I always feel 100 times better after I have done an hour at the pool!

Average weight gain during pregnancy is 12-14kg. Having said that a lot of women will put more or less on. I know that with my first I was very sick and lost 8kg in the first 6 months and then only gained back a few kg but with the second I gained 20 kg! There is no real right or wrong number, as long as you are eating healthy, and getting regular exercise, weight gain should be the last thing you think about.

You are pregnant so enjoy it!

Great advice.

Amazing pic!

I put on between 10-15kgs with each of my kids. I think eating healthy and doing basic exercise helps.

Re: Pregnancy, Diet and Weight Gain

Thanks MCM. Yes diet and exercise are so important. Some people use being pregnant as an excuse to eat junk and stop exercising but with the right guidance pregnancy can be a lot more enjoyable.
