17 weeks

mcm by mcm Young Parent(April 2008) (rank 5th)

The bones of your baby are now becoming more noticeable and harder. The palate of baby's mouth is completely formed and the enamel on their teeth is forming. Still tiny,  baby is growing very fast. Now at around 14cm long from crown of the head to bottom and

weighing  250 grams.

Meconium begins to form in the baby's bowels. Meconium is a mix of secretions from the gut which is still developing as well as animotic fluid (what baby swims in, inside the uterus!) When baby is born, this will be the first few bowel movements - a lovely black sticky substance!

At 17 weeks with my forth baby, I need to wear  more comfortable pants, even maternity wear. I also feel baby move as he/she bounces around. With first babies it may be a few weeks before you feel movement or need bigger pants. My morning sickness has calmed so I am able to eat better and can do things without feeling unwell. Now in the second trimester the placenta starts to take over to care for baby rather than your hormones which maintain the pregnancy in the first trimester and can cause nausea.

Re: 17 weeks

This is very good info! I also found that the 16-17 week time was when my morning sickness passed and I have more energy!
