My mom always had a "quiet time " where I would go to my room and play "quietly" I learned to apprecate my own company. And she had her break. I did this with my two as well. I called it my reading time and my daughter useto join me.

great advice. i kept teddy in my sons cot and when he would wake up instead of crying for attention he crawled to corner of cot and would take teddy and spend time on his own without people .

of course i kept an eye on him but he appeared to enjoy himself . he grew very attached to "teddy " right up til he was old enough not to "need and want him" ive still kept teddy along with a lot of other toys

Alex needs alot of alone time. he just doesnt want to be around ppl, but i do get him to play in the lounge where i can see him and interact with him. My daughter just wont leave us alone most of the day. i think parent s need alone time too

I absolutely agree.  My husband and I have learnt very quickly to notice the signs that our children need alone time and for each the signals are very different.

I think ALL children need some down time as I call it . . Time to themselves is very important and in particular most autisic kids will seek this all by themselves. For most kids this is a secret haven . .
