Tam-Pap - Protecting yourself from Cervical Cancer from Home.

monyq83 by monyq83 Talking Back(April 11th) (rank 8th)

Firstly, I want to justify writing this advice, as I know it's not specifically parenting-related.

My reasons for writing this, is because so many women die of cervical cancer each year, that they dont get to become parents to begin with.

We can put an end to it all, with this simple new technology.

I have so many friends who should be having pap smears, but dont because of the embarassment of baring their privates to a doctor.

Im terrified of one of them coming to me one day and telling me they have cancer because they were too embarassed to get a smear done years ago.

Well now that's all a thing of the past. (Phew!) Because the geniuses at Tam-Pap have come up with some revolutionary new technology where you can test yourself for cancer from home.

Some facts about Cervical Cancer:

  1. Cervical Cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in women worldwide, which is almost always caused by HPV. (Human Papillomavirus)
  2. Every 2 minutes, a woman will die of cervical cancer somewhere in the world. No doubt, as you are reading this advice, another 2 women would have died from it.

So what is Tam-Pap?

Tam-pap is an at-home testing kit, designed to completely cut out the middle man. You simply insert an ordinary tampon, then send it off to the lab by registered post, and tell them which doctor you nominate to give you results. When your results are in, they notify you, and you go see your doctor for your results as you normally would.

The down side:

Kits can be pricey. Kit costs $49.95 + $5.00 Postage & handling, which equals $54.95.

I believe it to be money well spent though, if it means you get to get to raise your own family, and be around to see your grandkids grow up.

So I hope you dont mind me writing advice about something a bit off-topic, but as you can see, the faster word spreads about this the better.

For more information, please go to the tampap website or call 1300 850 434 if you are an Australian resident.

Re: Tam-Pap - Protecting yourself from Cervical Cancer from Home.

Hi Mony,

I also have used Tam-Pap. What a FANTASTIC NEW PRODUCT!

I heard about it from my girlfirend who was discussing it a dinner party.

I spoke with my doctor beforehand. He said that HPV is the cause of cervical cancer, and this test is accurate in determining whether you have contracted HPV, which is what causes the cells in the cervix to change to abnormal, ie change to become cancerous.

My doctor suggested that it should be used as the primary test. If the test comes back NEGATIVE then you do not need to test again for at least another year, and there is no need for a pap smear. Horay!

My test was negative.

My doctor advised me that i did not need to do another HPV test for 2 years and there was no need for a pap smear! horay!!

I recommend that ALL WOMEN SHOULD USE TAM-PAP.

love

Amber

Re: Tam-Pap - Protecting yourself from Cervical Cancer from Home.

I am an Australian citizen and I did a Tam-Pap a couple of months ago. The whole process is really hassle-free!

It's great to know that this cancer can be easily prevented thanks to early detection!

Thanks Monyq!

Re: Tam-Pap - Protecting yourself from Cervical Cancer from Home.

i get the thin prep done every 2 years. I too was very shy to show my bits and pieces to ppl as i was raped by 2 of my boyfriends (@14 and again @17) so having Alex was a huge deal for me and i worked myself up into a panic. not good at all.

Personally i dont agree with this as i feel it is needed to be done by a doc/gyno, but that is my opinion.

Great article btw Mony. very informative

Luv liz

Re: Tam-Pap - Protecting yourself from Cervical Cancer from Home.

Wow that is a really good idea! I have a pap smear reguarly because to me 5 minutes of being uncomfortable is better than getting cancer!

My mum hasn't had one in over 22 years because she had one bad time where it hurt a lot and doesn't trust to go back :(

Re: Tam-Pap - Protecting yourself from Cervical Cancer from Home.

Family orientated article so its  A OK. Three months before we conceived Codi, I had to have a cone-biopsy to remove Grade 3 abnormal cells. I had been have regular pap smear every two years BUT I only asked for a THIN PREP test due to a poster in the Doctors office which the test could see the cells better, so from no problems to all of a sudden a Grade Three, the one step before cervical cancer, I was very unbelievably lucky. So home testing I would have done as well. I have checks every year now with a more in depth testing by my OB/GYN. So this article is crucial for being around to see your children grow up! :0)

Re: Tam-Pap - Protecting yourself from Cervical Cancer from Home.

That's why I wrote it. Ive had CIN2 and a cone biopsy, and yep Ive had the thin prep too. Cervical cancer is something that really hits home for me, and I'm always trying to encourage women to have their pap smear done.

You're very lucky to have concieved Codi so soon, if at all Rach!
