Twisted Tucker - Spag Bol Scrolls

monyq83 by monyq83 Talking Back(April 14th) (rank 6th)

I thought Id start a new series on here that have healthy food options for your family, but with a twist.

Tonight Im making Spag Bol Scrolls for dinner.

They are made the same way as traditional spaghetti bolognaise, but Im adding frozen spinach to mine for something different, and for a bit more iron in my diet because its something that I always lack.

So what you do is make your spag bol as you normally would, and then put it on a sheet of puff pastry, and roll it into a scroll. (similar to how sushi is made). My friend also tried this tonight when I told her about it, but she made it with shepards pie instead of spag bol.

You can also add veges, or serve with veges as a side dish, to include even more nutrients for your family. What an easy meal to make, and one that the whole family can enjoy!

To make the spag bol you will need:

  • 500g mince
  • 2tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 jar spaghetti sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 onion
  • herbs and spices (i prefer mixed italian herbs, basil and oregano but you can season it to your preferences)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry.

And that's it! its so easy! Bake on about 200deg celcius until pastry browns and puffs up, and dont forget to spray with canola spray.

Voila! Ur done!

Id really love to see what you feed ur family, that is a traditional meal, but with a twist. Call it Twisted Tucker and do an advice on it for me!

Happy cooking,

MonyQ.

Re: Twisted Tucker - Spag Bol Scrolls

A few years ago when BSE was at its height, in the UK, my youngest son insisted that he was not going to eat any more beef.  The problem was that he didn't eat vegetables and we were VERY skint at the time and beef mince was the cheapest meat available.  They loved my spag bol and I was then faced with the challenge of making it without any beef at all.!!  I spent hours painstakingly chopping vegetables - carrots, mushrooms, celery, onions, garlic, courgette etc, into miniscule litte pieces and made it as normal with the veg instead of meat.  I added a small amount of bulgur wheat for chewability and Voila!!  They didn't notice and even had seconds!!

That's a great idea to make something a bit differant from an old favourite. A great way to get kids to eat some vegies too. Thanks for sharing it

Hi Mony,

This sounds so yummy . . It's great to find different ways of serving meals as it helps to keep our kids interested in food and being able to add veges is always great . . .

Cheers Kellz

Re: Twisted Tucker - Spag Bol Scrolls

I agree, i think it is great advice. My son isn't old enough to turn his nose up at anything yet, but i am always trying to make dinner a little bit different. I think it gets boring doing the same old stuff all the time.

Thanks for sharing
