The Great Debate Part 2 : Circumcision and the Disadvantages |

Like all things in life, circumcision is a topic that have differing opinions and can often turn into a heated topic when people feel so passionate about one and the other person about the other thing!
Circumcision doesn't have to be a taboo subject! Everyone has a different opinion to
everything and thats fine - so why just single out circumcision?
For parents who are considering getting their baby boys circumcised, here are the disadvantages or risks if you like with circumcision.
- Blood Loss: Like any medical procedure (being operation etc) there is a risk of your baby losing too much blood around the cut. This can be very dangerous because the baby doesn't have a large volume of blood
- No anesthetic: There is a numbing agent available but its usually done without it because the doctors say that if bub is going to cry the numbing agent won't make much difference and so they tend to perform the procedure without it.
- Infection: Like with any wound, there is an increased risk of infection if the wounded area isnt kept clean or if it is fiddled with etc.
- Unsettled baby: There is a high chance that your baby may become unsettled after the procedure. Make sure you change the baby's nappy regularly so that he doesn't sting as much after a wee.
- No cream or powder: If your baby suffers from nappy rash especially around the glans (head of his little genital) you just have to wait for the plastibell ring to fall off before you can use cream or powder! Why i do not know but thats what the doctor told me.
- Salt Baths: This is a disadvantage because it can make bathtime hell.... salt is the best healing agent and it stings like hell when used on wounds.
They are all the disadvantages i can think of for now, but if i think of anymore i will come back and add them!
Hope this helps people in making their choice about whether to circumcise or not!
Cheers
