Hi everyone!
I have quite a few friends who are first time mums with very young babies and all the time they are asking questions about how I would bath my kids when they were younger. This lead me to thinking that maybe I would offer you a few
tips and hope that they help.
Remember when you gave your baby that very first bath? Remember thinking how small they were and how slippery they were and that you were never going to get the knack of holding your baby in the water right? I did! I was always scared I was going to let my baby slip out of my hands.
To prevent this from happening, I wore a pair of cotton gloves! It gave me a little bit of comfort knowing that my hands wouldn't slip and gave me a better grasp on my baby. Being a cotton glove, it was still soft on babies skin and I would then just use the baby soap on my glove to wash them. Much easier than trying to use a face washer one handed!
Another idea/tip..washing babies hair. How are you meant to do it one handed? I would lay my baby down on a towel and wrap them up just like you would when you wrap them in a blanket. Then I would hold them under my arm, kind of like holding a football and then while supporting their head, I would hold them over the baby bath and wash their hair. Using this technique prevents water and shampoo going into the eyes. The purpose of wrapping them in a towel is so they cant wriggle free and your risk of dropping them. ( I just knew mums advice would come in handy one day..lol)
When your baby is older and sitting up on their own you would need to be using the "big" bath. This is one of the most back breaking mum tasks there is! Try using a oval washing basket in the bath. Fill up the bath as you normally would and place the basket in the water. Put a face washer in the bottom of it and pop baby ontop of that. Push the basket to the back of the bath to prevent it tipping backwards and put all of their toys inside. Your baby will then be less likely to topple over when reaching for their toys as they will be close at hand in the basket with them. Not only will you find this easier on your back but it will free up your hands allowing you to actually have some playtime with your baby. Not to mention it is an inexpensive and one safe way to bath your baby.
Well these are my tips on bathing baby. Hope they help someone and if anyone has any others, feel free to add them below!
