Re: 16 year old girl birthday party?
Asked by musicmum

Question:

HI all, My daughter is turning 16 in a few weeks and has asked to have a costume party at our house. How many do you suggest to invite? How would you go about this. I am not a party person at all.

Thanks for any advice,

Eryn

My Advice:

Sweet 16...I'm 21.........................................................................years past that and feeling it.  hehe

Costume party, WOW, I love it...I'm going to have one to. Should be a laugh.

1stly it is a brave parent that agrees for a heap of teenagers over for a party.

Your daughter will not remember too much if you say no to her but will talk about it forever if you say yes.

If this is the case then you have a lot of planning ahead of you to make sure that it is going to be both enjoyable and safe.

I would suggest to keep it smallish so as not to attract a lot of attention from other teens that may just be looking for a wild party. 20 would be the max for me unless I could afford it and then I would be thinking about security in the way of bouncers and a venue other than my home.

You need to set boundries that you are comfortable with eg; will there be boys, what time will the party end, when will the music be turned down so the neighbours don't cal the police. Will there be alcohol, I know your daughter is only 16 but a lot of parent allow this. Many kids that are not allowed to will anyway. Make sure there is plenty of room for people to sleep if the party goes late but remember to think of the other parents, some get worried if their kids are out late so make sure they have your phone number.

Most importantly, talk with your daughter about the details and the rules. Let her know that if she is a good host and things run smoothy there may be a possibility of others.

Kids are only young once and it is good to see them have fun in a safe environment with their friends.

Show your daughter trust and she will respect you for it.

I am looking forwards to see what advice others give.

Re: Fun

We let all the neighbours know that a party will be held & ask them if they have any problems with noise etc to plz come & let us know. We also have Older larger men at the etrances & exits to check no alcohol or gate crashes come in as that does happen. Another great idea is if u have a friend that has a farm, that way the noise is out of reach & the guests can camp there with adult supervision

Re: Fun

I have always been one to include my family in the things I do and in return (even as they have grown up) include me in their lives.

Thank you Angie.

We can only offer what we believe to be a good idea to try and help and hope that in return others (as does happen) return similar when we need/ask.

Re: Fun

Hi there,

This is great Rob, you certainly have some great idea's and knowledge . .  I agree, it takes a brave person to have a teenage party. I was not so brave and my daughter had her 16th at the local hall, right around the corner from the Police station . .  Sneaky I know but it worked a treat and she still had a good time . .

Cheers Kellz
