Children playing up for no reason

FremantleDocker by FremantleDocker Talking Back(April 18th) (rank 33rd)

Today while i was at the shops my daughter started to play up like no one's business, and we didn't know why. She was fine, and all of a sudden she would play up.

It was wierd, and she would only play up for about 20 seconds each time. We couldn't work it out. We were racking our brains to why she would play up so much in this certain area. We tried to think what she'd eaten today and over the past few days to determin if it was something that set her off like too much of something. We were still confused as we hadn't given her anything out of the ordinary.

There was a woman who noticed this aswell, and she said to us that just walk past this certain store again, and see what happens. We did that, and we noticed she played up again like she did before. She told us that 2 of her 4 children did the exact same thing. The place we walked past had peanuts and peanut related things and she would get a head ache and feel sick everytime we would walk past.

We went to the doctors and said there was nothing we could do about it but to avoid the shop all together and not to go near it, as it triggers something off inside their bodies to make them play up.

So what im trying to say is, if this happens to any of your children, or relatives or friends children, it could be as simple as walking past a certain shop, and not what they've eaten.

Re: Children playing up for no reason

Sometimes the obvious reason for it is too in our face for us to notice what it is. I've had problems like this with my kids, and sometimes it's the strangest things that will set them off. Excellent that you pointed out that foods and the usual other suspects aren't always the culprits. I think a lot of people look so hard into what is "normal" they forget to look outside the box for the answer.

Re: Children playing up for no reason

Interesting!  I think there is always a reason - and I would never have thought of this one.  I asked my son once why he mucked up when we are out and his reply "it's because there's all these people I don't know" - it was upsetting him!  Children are amazing creatures aren't they!

OMG, that must of been scarey for your son. Being frightened isn't nice at all. Hope he was ok and felt safe after that.

Re: Children playing up for no reason

Interesting topic and yes I have heard of a young boy who if even sitting near somebody eating peanut butter sandwhiches it would actually make him feel sick not as fatal as him eating peanuts as he is has a bad allergy to peanuts.  Although some may not agree I don't think children play up for no reason. I believe sometimes we cannot see a reason or understand their reasoning at times. Glad that you discovered why though and now you can avoid the store and products that may affect your little one.

Re: Children playing up for no reason

I agree that some children don't play up for no reason, and neither does my daughter to an extent. She only played up going past this one store. The peanuts triggered her off, and then stopped when she couldn't smell it anymore. Yeah, i understand what you're saying, and i think sometimes parent's dont stop to think sometimes what the real problem is, which isn't thier fault and not blaming them at all.

Yeah, we will be avoiding the store now, as i don't like to see my daughter like that for no reason in such.

i know that if i am in the shop with my hubby that we cant go near DUSK. the smell gives him a instant migraine and almost vomits. he had one lady at work come in with vinialla oil on her and he had to nicely say here go ask this person as i cant serve u. he then had to go out the back of the shop for almost an hour and the lady to leave the shop.

Hi honey,

This is very interesting indeed . . Does your daughter have an allergy to peanuts?? . .  Perhaps you should look into get her checked and in the meantime avoid anything with nuts just to be safe . .

Thanks for this as its something I will certainly keep an eye on . . .

Cheers Kellz

Re: Children playing up for no reason

Hey Kellz.

No, my daughter doesn't have an allergy to peanuts. Just doesn't like eating them for some reason. Yeah, i will get her checked out for sure now again by a different doctor about the nuts, but the doctor yesterday said she was fine, so i think i'll get a second opinion on this matter.

Thanks for the comments Kellz.

Re: Children playing up for no reason

Wow thanks for sharing this, I knew nuts had a bad effect on some kids but it is awful to think that even without eating them it can react with them.  VERY SCARY....
