Health Check

Anonymous Author (April 2008)

I am not really sure if this advice will be allowed, but indirectly it comes under being a better parent....  So I am hoping it is allowed

We as parents always take our child(ren) for checkups etc when we even suspect they are sick. I know I do........

Why is it we neglect ourselves? My advice is NOT to ignore ourselves.

What has prompted me to write this you ask? Well here is my story (or rather my other half's):....

Hubby had a spot on his back and we had it removed. Horror of all horrors the pathology results came back and it is an active melanoma.  This Tuesday he has to go and have it removed and he has to have this ultrasound like procedure to see how far it has spread. They are not even using the words "if it has spread" anymore, it is a question of "how far it has spread".I guess like a lot of adults I was niave in thinking just how bad melanomas are. I had no idea it can travel to your organs, brain, anywhere really.

I am so scared and all I can think of is how do you tell a 3 year old that dadd is no longer here????  I hope and pray it doesn't come to that.

So my advice to be a better parent, is GET YOURSELF CHECKED IF YOU FEEL POORLY.........

Re: Health Check

Vital advice.  Often we are so busy we forget about ourselves, and it isn't until it is too late that we realise that if only.... things may have been different for our children.

It isn't just health issues, it is also business decisions and family quality times that are planned and re-scheduled.

I hope that you are all well and making the most of every moment of every day.

Peace
EF.x

Re: Health Check

Hi there,

I am so sorry that you and your hubby are going through this and I hope everything turns out okay . .  BUT you are so right, as parents we tend to neglect ourselves and that really isn't okay . .  Happy and healthy parents raise happy and healthy kids . .

I hope Davids is okay and thanks for sharing as it is a reminder to us all . .

Cheers Kellz

You're so right........the most important thing we can do as parents is look after ourselves......because if we don't then what are our kid's left with.

I hope David's okay........
